Id keep Kessel. mid 20's, 6th overall in points last year. Keep him for now. Id trade the rest of those misfits for Benn anyday, Dallas probably wouldnt. - systemtool
I like Kessel's age and production, what I don't like is his work ethics, softness and his one dimensional game. I was at the ACC yesterday attending the open practice. Kessel was wiped the ice with. He simply is the odd man out when it comes to fitting in under Carlyle defensive system. Kessel was flat on the ice more than on his skates. Kostka made him look like a fool. On the rush too, everyone who leaned on him, stole the puck from him and left him stumbling down like a drunk prom ugly girl without a partner. And for that reason only I'd take Benn instead of Kessel. Benn under carlyle system is just too good to pass on. |

Sure champ, sure.
1-2 jab, 1-2 jab.
Lets use a high first rounder on a goalie. - systemtool
I didn't say they would, I was saying that would be a dumb move but still better then the long contract.
When you're busy solving the worlds issues maybe give yourself one of those jabs before someone does it for you |

Why on earth would Dallas even trade Benn?
There goes Ek, making up poop for hits again. |

I'd give up Gardnier to get Benn any day.
- dmnted
you wouldn't ONLY give up benn.....i suspect it would cost something like
gardiner, 1st rd pick, plus other solid prospect (colborne, biggs, etc) |

Who cares. The guy racks up points and goals. Trading your best forward for a better forward isnt the answer. The team should be adding to Kessel, not making lateral moves.

So, what goalie do we take with a lottery pick this draft, Mr. Balboa? |

GM Dave Nonuts will quickly learn that Dallas's asking price for Benn is just as steap if not more steap than the Canucks asking price for Lou.

i think dallas would want the 2013 1st, considering that it's likely to be a lottery pick, or close to (no offense).
i think if nonnis made your offer to dallas, he'd hear the dallas GM laughing as he hung up the phone. |

If Benn is actually available 29 other teams will have crazy offers for him that the leafs wouldn't be able to compete with. |

Depending on the quality of the high end talent. Also depending on quality of high end goalies.
Maybe you trade down, maybe you trade an asset to get another first rounder.
I have not looked at this years draft class close enough.

I agree.
A 34 year old with a 10 year contract has the exact same value as a young free agent.
Gotta love Casuck fans. - systemtool
Question: What is Benn gonna cost to resign? So far it's been reported/rumored that Benn is asking for 8 years at around 5.5-6 million per. The actual contract figures remain to be seen, but those contract numbers hold up than it really isn't far off from what Lou has left on his contract. |

Benn for 8 years, and Luongo for 8 years are not the same thing.
For one, Luongo is closer to 40 than Benn is to 30. |

I'd rather give Lupul + than Kessel. Lupul & Benn are Left wingers and + is for the difference of age (Lups 29, Benn is 23).
I am only considering Kessel just because I expect him not resigning with the Leafs or we have to pay a King's ransom to keep him here. |

How much is Subban asking per year? Why dont the Habs want to lock up their young stud long term? - systemtool
To answer question 2 first. The Habs have a history of refusing those long term contracts. Typically what they do is have the player on an ELC and then when that expires they sign them to one of those shorter 2-3 year deals, typically 2. They did this with Higgins, Eller, Emelin, Pacioretty, Price, Diaz, Gorges, and many more.
If you look at all of those guys as well each of them had a bruidge contract in the $1.25-$2.75 million range, including Price and Pacioretty. In other words they don't sign players to UFA type money until their 3rd contract.
As for what Subban is asking nobody really knows. What is certain is that it is north of $5 million, most speculate around $6 million. What is also certain is that he is looking for a minimum 5 year contract. he wants contract term and length right away. |

We have to trade him if we cant resign him. Keep him until that happens though. We need all the help we can on this team. |

2014 1st or 2015

Though I agree it is Benn they should be going after, I don't believe for a moment Dallas would trade Benn. If they did, the Leafs would have to give up Gardiner ++ - JACMAN
But with Reily around (or close). Do you think Gardiner is expendable? |
