I hope it isn't rue...I'd rather have them trade a pick to Toronto for Franson...young, big, can play the power play and CHEAP...that's who the Islanders should be looking to trade for...not retreads/waiver pickups like Redden and Gomez... - kear20
It's not, apparently any computer geek can do it as long as the player was drafted by the Islanders. Some kind of HTML trick, BD did it with Luongo:

It sounds like Isles just signed Gomez....
They also suspended Viz.. eff him. - niteislander
Useless. Another friggin Devils reject, as if Snow hasn't learned his lesson from the last three. I'm sure we'll hear about how great this is and how he'll help, but he won't. He's a decent player, but he doesn't try. Period. Being on the Islanders rather than on teams in the thick of the playoff hunt will not make him try more. Just like it didn't make Rolston try more. There's no incentive to try here for older players who have already made their millions. It's not a Moulson or Grabner situation where they try because it's the last chance to get their careers started. |

That looks a little like it was photo shopped. Nowhere on twitter, TSN, NHL.com, or the isles page has that news listed. |

Because they have zero depth at defense. Finley can't play everyday, I doubt Hickey can either. After Ness, Wishart and Donovan they have nothing in Bridgeport. Streit is coming off an injury, Martinek is made of glass and Hamonic is coming off any injury in Bridgeport. Given the compressed schedule, there is going to be injuries. |

I'll take the devils advocate approach on this one though your point is a good one. I've never liked Gomez much and thought he was way overrated during his days in NJ. He certainly never appeared to me to be a real ppg player. That said, he is a decent playmaker who can transition the puck through the neutral zone very well. He's also a bit gritty (even dirty) which we could use. While saying that getting players looking for their last chance to get started is more effective, you could argue that Gomez will recognize this is likely his last chance.
I don't necessarily like the team becoming the land of misfit toys but sadly it does improve our talent pool. At 33 Years of age, Gomez is hardly ready to go out to pasture physically. Perhaps playing back in a rough and tumble division like the Atlantic against familiar foes might give him a kick in the arse... |

Yeah, but what do you do with all of them? Can't send them down for 30 days (Hickey, Finley, Strait), so we'll have 8 d-men on the roster? Nine should Vis report? |

Fair enough, but why 6 waiver wire pick ups. Why is there a need to bring in 6 people off waivers a few days before the season starts. Does not sound promising to me.... |
