Rumor is, it is about to happen. - bixll
I would think they would wait until he clears waivers before they go after him. I don't think they want to pay his $4 million salary... |

If Marty Broduer is in net for the Devils I would bet that it will be Rick DiPietro for the Isles and not Nabokov.
Can you say 0-1? - PeteM

this is what I'd prefer considering Strome and Reinhart aren't available (or ready) and Nino/Donovan are not called up. Looks at least a little better, but I'm not sure Boyes doesn't drop down a line at least after a couple of games if he stays invisible
Hopefully by the end of the season it looks more like:
Moulson Tavares Okposo
Grabner Nielson Nino
Bailey Cizikas Ulstrom
Boulton Reasoner Boyes
Streit Hamonic
Visnovsky AMac
Martinek/Carkner Donovan
Nabby
Poulin - Isles_since_6
where's Matt Martin at dawg? |

What do you think they'll be? I say the Saturday night lineup is:
Moulson - Tavares - Okposo
Grabner - Nielsen - Boyes
Martin - Cizikas - Ullstrom
Boulton - Reasoner - McDonald
Streit - Martinek
AMac - Hamonic
Hickey - Carkner
Nabokov
DP - UIF
that third line is going to be a pain in the ass to play against |

If the isles do claim Connelly, im ok with it. But, I do laugh at the fact that Garth has found a way to bring in whatever help he needed via waivers. Last year it was camp invites, who filled the holes.........this year its the waiver wire. Its blatantly obvious to me that Garth is flying by the seat of his pants.

Hopefully this summer it's FA's or trades. Would be nice to use everything all at once and not in stages. |

Are you deliberately slow? If that bum is in net tomorrow I say the isles will lose by a score of something like 5-1. |

I guess we will find out about Connolly @ noon!!!
I don't hate the move... but I really don't see him as much of an upgrade for Neilsen.
Still a good player... can be good on the powerplay.

Another possible option is to make another trade, as they did with Matthew Lombardi on Wednesday. Helene St James of the Detroit Free Press reports this morning that the Red Wings have some interest in Franson, who signed a one year, $1.2 Million deal earlier in the week.
St. James indicates that Franson might cost the Wings a third or fourth round pick, who need to improve the depth of their blueline, in the wake of the retirement of future Hall of Famer Nicklas Lidstrom.
Just saw this on the Toronto blog. Why aren't the Islanders interested in Franson? He's big, good defenseman and not too expensive. I would think a 3rd or 4 th round pick from the Islanders is better than the same from Detroit... |

If true, I just don't really like Connolly at all. Never really have. However...it's better than Gomez, imo. If he predictably gets hurt, they're no worse off than before they claimed him, and at least it would put Nielsen on the third line where he belongs. - UIF
I'm not that thrilled either, but he's played 70+ games 2 of the last 3 seasons, and he's certainly a better option than Cizikas, Reasoner or Gomez. |

Because to snow and wang, 3rd and 4th round picks are much better and cheaper to have. |

If Isles pick up Connolly, he would be a strong trade chip at deadline if Islanders are not in it if it is last year of his deal.
Can't believe Islanders penciled Martinek back into our starting 6 on D. Streit and Martinek as a pair is a little un-nerving. Those two together are not going to clear a crease |

I always liked Connolly but never felt he was used properly (except for a year or two in Buffalo). He's got some of the better hands in the NHL but doesn't use them in traffic as much, likely due to a fear of another bump on his noggin. That said, he'd be a huge improvement on this team up the middle and I think might find decent chemistry with guys like Grabner and Okposo.
For the record, Staple says the isles aren't even considering him so we can probably put this one to bed. (as someone with two connolly jerseys that sux) |

Wade Redden is apparently an Islander.

I hope it isn't true...I'd rather have them trade a pick to Toronto for Franson...young, big, can play the power play and CHEAP...that's who the Islanders should be looking to trade for...not retreads/waiver pickups like Redden and Gomez... |
