It's okay I'll be holding out hope it forces them to figure out to draft & develop one or two.

Not a bad price for him. Fair deal for both sides.

All this has done is made me go look at the 2013 draft and potential d-men that we likely won't draft.

Solid deal, but Vancouver is going to have some cap trouble next year, no? After dumping Luongo(unless they can find a foolish trading partner) they have like 4 mil to sign 2 D men, a backup goalie and 5 wingers.

I'd be surprised if they can't trade Luongo. But if they can't they will likely buy him and Ballard out, which will give them $13.42mm to fill those spots.

I thought there might be a contract or two they'd like to dump, just don't know enough what a players AAV should be. Dumping or trading Luongo and Ballard gives them around $8 million for a backup goalie, 3 Dmen and 5 wingers. Did you forget to add Elder's $5 million AAV to 2013?

Nope. They have just under $4mm in space next year counting Edler, Luongo and Ballard. Take Luongo's $5.33mm hit and Ballard's $4.2mm hit and they have just over $13mm.

Edler's raise isn't that drastic-$1.75mm more in AAV. They have Eddie Lack who could possibly be the back up goalie for $900K. They can probably keep third pair/bottom 6 guys like Andrew Alberts & Max Lapierre for modest raises or the same amount of cash. There's also likely to be some guys out there who will be collecting buyout cash that might take a smaller deal to play on a contender.

I must have been looking at payroll. It's going to be an interesting Free Agency next year with teams looking to pick up bought out players on the cheap.
