So did I. Though, less so after the Ramo acquisition.
However, I am completely shocked. Did they perform so badly in camp? Could we not have traded Irving for...anything? - FLflames34
considering Irving should be at the same level as enroth and lindeback at this point in his career.
I don't think he'll get much unless packaged to a team that has a young goalie that needs a backup and are willing to take a chance on him being a late bloomer. Like Pitts, Mtl, St louis.

he did well in the tourney.
I like the idea of maybe trading him to minny to play with his brother for Coyle. Granlunds a centre, but we need a big soft hands player on the RW just as much (almost more in 3 yrs). - numbear
I don't know anything about Coyle. |

Erixon is a piece of moldy dog sh!t.
If Horak, Wotherspoon and Granland all have NHL careers, it will go down as a great trade for the Flames.
Hope Erixon is destined for a career in the Swedish "B" league - scoot174
What is his deal anyway? Does he still have the same agent?
I remember when the trade happened, how Calgary was getting killed for losing it. same with the Phaneuf trade. In hindsight, neither look too bad.
I am willing to admit Phaneuf was a loss, but a much smaller one than the Leeman-type it was made out to be at the time.
And, still holding out hope for a resurgent Stajan season.
Colin- what are your impressions on Backlund, firsthand? It seems he is a different player than last yr if the Swedish league and the camp stories are to be believed. |

No way should they trade JBO now with Hartley in the mix. - KABLOOEY
What is the logic as to him being better under Hartley? Is the opinion that he will be a less-physical, but better puck possession #2 and minutes eater (foote), or more of a 40 pt producer like in FLA due to better tempo? |

Hartley wants the D to join the play and Sutter did not. Plain and simple. Trust me if JBO goes you'll miss him. |

I am hopeful this season will turn out well, and I agree a JBo used properly is 100% better than trading him.
Now, if after a month he doesn't gel maybe a trade would be best, but I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt. As I said a week ago, all players should get a clean slate in the new system, Stajan and JBo included. |

I agree. After a month if we're below 500 look out, the blow up may be felt in Japan. |

I was going to say this in your last blog, but i got side tracked by homer Flames fans trying to rip on the Oilers... But I like your blogs, i think you do a great job of not being biased about the value of your players and state of your team.... I'd much rather have a blogger like you for the Oilers than that donkey Cloutier... - SpoiledByOil
What you mean the epic trade he wrote about yesterday isn't going to happen? |

If that's the the way they are going (Brust/Taylor) why weren't one or both of them at camp? - KABLOOEY
Damn good question... |

I'm hoping its because it was a test for leiland and karlsson since they are fighting for a 1way and the other two are on two way contracts.
I'd rather have karlsson back up again and we trade leiland

thats true...but still, would like them to try to trade for him. Or clutterbuck
No hockey fan could say they wouldn't want to see glenX and clutterbuck playing on the same line. That would be one of the hardest working lines in the league |

Oh wow. If I'm any one of 12-15 GM's I grab Irving, esp @ his cap hit. He can tie a franchise over if they draft a goalie in this upcoming deep draft. |

Brust & Taylor aren't technically Flames property. They have contracts signed with the Heat, not the Flames. Irving is on a 2 way. Only Karlsson is on a 1 way deal with the Flames.
In order for Brust or Taylor to play with the Flames, they would have to sign a contract, either 1 way or 2 way. That would burn another of CGY's 50 contracts and, assuminig all out waiver players pass, I thing we would be up to 48 signed contracts. |

Well I guess the mystery is over, both cleared waivers & Irving was on the practise ice. So I think Karlsson is the odd man out. Not sure what they are going to do with him as he was the one on a 1 way deal unless the Flames may have a small trade lining up with Leiland involved.I heard Irving played pretty good in practise yesterday. |

almost seems like they'll stick with Irving until Ramo is ready...Irving ain't playing... |
