TOR would have to recall him on waivers, I believe, in order for CGY to split the contract cost. - TandA4Flames
No, CGY would pay the full pro-rated $4.75m salary. |

I think the Flames should sign Brent Johnson to be the back up for the rest of the year.
Career back up who knows the role, did well in Pittsburgh, but they needed more than a back up, they need someone who could take over for long stretches when Fleury goes off the rails and got that with Vokoun.
He would need to play 6 games and get at least 6 points, that's it that's all

The defense in CBJ isnt really all that bad. There are quite a few guys to get around to make that team. |

It's really interesting some of the players getting waived & trust the Islanders to be scooping a few. Personally, I dont think we will get mch of a looksey at Ramo this season. Thing is both Brust & Taylor have been awesome in Abbottsford & have playing a lot of games & are game shape. Maybe Hartley & Feaster are seeing way too much rust on these goalies (Irving & Karlsson) & dont trust what they will get when they need to gift Kipper a day off. I think Brust or Taylor are game ready & would make a way better backup this year.
Does anyone else think we should plick Connolly off of waivers, would that mean we pay 1/2 his salary & Toronto payoff like what happened with Hagman last year? I would take him over Gomez all day long at 2.375mill for this year. - Kevin R

prince was a late 1st or early 2nd rd pick 2 years ago (sens had so many 1st and 2nd that year, can't remember who was taken where). solid prospect, playing well in binghampton. top six potential.
problem is that if sens don't address D needs soon, they might be sellers in feb too.
if i was calgary, i'm moving some of those guys for sure (j-bo, iggy, kipper). i think the window with those guys is closed. flames might make the playoffs, but only the biggest homer thinks they have a legit shot at the cup. i think with how many teams currently need D, the window to move j-bo for max return is right now. come deadline, a lot of teams who need D might be out of playoff hunt, and no longer willing to make a trade. i think there are more customers now, would have a better bidding war IMO. - sensarmy_11
I stop reading after that... their windows are closed... |

I agree on all but net. Both Leland and Karlsson are not up to snuff period. I think the next goalie in Calgary is Ramo, so why waste 6 starts on kids who will not likely be in the organization next season, or next week.
If they are going to give someone a shot internally, Danny Taylor should get a shot |

Erixon is a piece of moldy dog sh!t.
If Horak, Wotherspoon and Granland all have NHL careers, it will go down as a great trade for the Flames.
Hope Erixon is destined for a career in the Swedish "B" league |

I'm ok with it being Taylor at this point. But who's to say what Irving and Karlsson might have eventually developed into had they actually had the opportunity to play?
We're wasting assets when we don't give them an opportunity to develop properly. |

As Colin said earlier - I reckon Brust gets the backup role. By all reports from Abbotsford, he's got the goods.
I think Calgary can benefit more from a shortened season than most teams, provided they get a good start. Who is going to be the number 1 and 2 centre? I heard Cervenka is injured, and he's not a lock since he hasn't played a game in the NHL anyway. |

As of right now it's Tanguay and Backlund. |

If that's the the way they are going (Brust/Taylor) why weren't one or both of them at camp? |

Because they are already game proven & have a good number of starts where Leiland & Karlsson are basically unknown ecause neither have really played during the lockout. I donttk we have actual NHL contracts with either Brust or Taylor & I think they are hoping 1 of these guys gets picked off, the other will be backup in Abbottsford & either Brust or Taylor will get a contract & back up Kipper & the other will be the starter down in Abbey. |

All three of those names already are panning out better. We won getting rid of erixon already.
Wotherspoon I think is going to be like gio, a good workhorse D. |

So did I. Though, less so after the Ramo acquisition.
However, I am completely shocked. Did they perform so badly in camp? Could we not have traded Irving for...anything? |

he did well in the tourney.
I like the idea of maybe trading him to minny to play with his brother for Coyle. Granlunds a centre, but we need a big soft hands player on the RW just as much (almost more in 3 yrs). |

No way should they trade JBO now with Hartley in the mix. |
