I wonder if Clendening's strong showing in last nights scrimmage will mean the Hawks revisit the supposed Leddy to Ottawa deal.

Scott F'n Gomez?! No. Just...no!

Need heart and grit to center the PK, win faceoffs, block some shots and be a professional 4th line center. Take pressure off Toews AT LEAST on the PK. I don't get why that's so hard to figure out. Gomez is the opposite of that!

I get that a #2 center and a goalie are tough to come by. So are true top-6 power forwards. So why not check box #3 by getting a guy to not only eat up PK minutes but eat them up effectively while winning draws and playing solid D? Much easier to acquire in a trade.

Mr. Bowman, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

Saw Adam pardy is on the waiver wire. Is he a subsitute for Monty? Not sure of his cap hit, but thought he actually plays a physical game. Q could make him a well rounded stick waiver

Makes no sense to sign Gomez. Pirri should be at the top of the list to try at second line center. He is a puck magnet, and distributes it very well. Very good offensively and getting better defensively. And he is young and hungry to prove himself, not a jaded old millionaire like Gomez. Stick him with Hossa and Sharp on his wings and that would be a killer second line.

Mike Santorelli anyone? Had a hell of a year two years ago for Florida. Had 20 goals and 21 assists.

David Steckel from the Leafs. 58% on the draw (6th best in the league) and he's 6'6" as a bonus. He's a UFA at the end of the year and Toronto seems to be having a sale. I'm sure he could be had for pick or prospect. His cap hit is good too, $1.1 million.

THIS!

Been saying it for a while now that he should be on Bowman's radar.

Also guys, word here in Toronto is it's not a fire sale, rather than a string of suspicious moves to a potential bigger deal.

Funny watching everyone play armchair GM, scrambling like it's the trade deadline and we have clear and glaring holes....... wait for it....... the Hawks haven't played a game this season yet.

They played some bad ones last year though... with essentially the same roster.

Even if they're not having a fire sale Steckel would be the perfect 4th line centre for us. He'd take a lot of pressure off of Toews during those key defensive zone face offs. Steckel could also help on the PK.

Steckel for Lalonde! (being sarcastic there, I know it would take more than that).

I think it remains to be seen if they do, or don't, have glaring holes.

I would put my money however on a couple of areas that were holes last year being holes this year. Because nothing has been done to change them.

I will say you are in the minority, not just here, but really throughout the fanbase as far as blind optimism.

And I also think a lot of the posters here would lead the parade for Stanley and the front office if all the dominoes fall the right way—and the lack of moves ends up being the right strategy.

Point definitely taken.

Though I would say there are fairly clear holes in net and at center.

But yeah, going bananas and writing things off before the puck drops is a bit silly... especially considering what a massive difference just improving special teams would do for this team.

Hall, Gordon, Smithson, Sobotka, Fiddler...just a few others I can think of who aren't named Gaustad, Stoll or Slater (who aren't available). Belanger? Konopka? We've been talking about these same names for 2 years now. Vitale? Pahlsson?

more twitter additions to waiver list:

Aaron Portzline ‏@Aportzline
#CBJ cuts are C Boone Jenner and D Tim Erixon.

Jenner was supposed to be a little terror on the lower lines. How far has Erixon's stock fallen? Cgy--->Rangers----CBS---->waivers?

Would love to have Jacob back but I'm not sure he upgrades anything right now.
