Bowman fiddles while the Hawks chances burn. Freakin Gomez! I'd be better coming out of retirement for depth at Center!

For those that beleive McD pulls some strings, signing Gomez would be your typical McD orchestrated PR move.

Lets sign a guy with "name" recognition. Heck he was at a cap hit of $7+ mil from the Habs....he must be good. He was a superstar.....

You can shove that down the throats of all the lemmings with no Hockey sense.

But for those who want Arnott, wouldn't that apply too.

Tim Connolly was waived. Anyone prefer him over Gomez?

Im still pretty pissed that the Hawks didnt make a move to even negotiate for Lombardi. Reminds me of how Vermette went to Phoenix and murdered us in that series.

Not that I'm bashing Bowman, but ever since he's been calling the shots it just seems the Hawks have become this team that has to get into a dogfight to make the playoffs, I mean clearly Crawford is not even close to what Niemi did , and replacing Burish with Mayers is mind boggling and now he's realizing no one can fill the second spot at center.....

Again, from a possible "lightning in a bottle" perspective, the move makes some sense: lefty centerman, has been a top 6 guy, pure setup guy, great speed. Play him with Hossa. They might click.

His defense blows, that is one huge downside.

Rather see Pirri than Gomez....let's stay in house if Gomez is really being considered.

How do you know that they didn't? (<<< The answer to that is you don't). On top of that, is that really the best way to spend $3.5 mil...on Lombardi who is a shell of what he once was?

The haul that CBJ got for Vermette was pretty steep.

Honestly, we can all rip on Stan all we want...but pretty much none of us know what is going on behind closed doors. I'm not thrilled that the team hasn't improved and I'm not thrilled that he is a lot of the reason for that. At the same time, I don't think he is sitting there with his thumb up his ass.

Now...I hear Connolly is on waivers. That is a player I would look at if I was the Blackhawks. UFA at the end of the year and could be a legit 2nd line center that the Blackhawks need. He has injury problems but still worth a shot.

I'd say he's comparable to Gomez if you can get either for a minimal cap hit. Sure, Gomez went a year without a goal, but the guy only has one 20+ goal season. He's been solid as a setup man his entire career, except with Montreal where he was stuck trying to feed passes to guys like Travis Moen, Lars Eller and Mattieu Darche. Not exactly guys known for lighting the lamp. The Rangers gave him a huge contract, expecting him to match that single 33-goal season. That's a bad idea right there. There's no doubt the guy is overvalued at his previous contract, but at or near league-minimum? I bet he could be relatively successful with the Hawks, or at least less of a financial burden as a healthy scratch than Frolik or Olesz. With both Connolly or Gomez, it would depend on the price, in my mind. The risk is worth the reward if it's done cheap.

Would be worth a flyer on the guy. He can play 2c still - no doubt about that. Everyone knows his injury past.

In 2011-2012, the Leafs paid near $5 mil for Connolly and got.....36 points in 70 games and -14...

NO THANKS.

gomez = subtraction through addition
- sensarmy_11

Gomez totally sucks.he has NO heart. The guy was unwilling to do anything last season.any team hiring Gomez deserves to be cursed for a hundred years like the cubs (unless it's the Canucks in which case mike gillis should be fired and the team wins the cup :-)).

Not Really. Gomez was one of the first guys to sign a huge contract. Arnott was never in that class salary wise or "flash" wise.

Numbers are comparable, but Gomez is an assist guy, Arnott more goals. Huge difference in size, grit, etc (on the Arnott side).

From a Hockey sense, for this team at this time, maybe Arnott makes more sense for 1 year, which is why Gomez reeks as a McD idea.

Wow. Do you think he would be a good fit? Seems like another 3-4 line center... which wouldn't help.

Anyone know if he still has his legs? For the fast paced game the Hawks play...

- Old_Style311

A small 3/4 center .Good luck to any team taking that on. He will be a Devil replacing Parise

Blackhawks have plenty of cap space and there is no commitment past this year. 42, 65 and 47 points in the years prior (68, 73, 48 games to match up).

Worth a shot in my opinion.

If Gomez can be signed for an amount that has no cap hit if he doesn't work out and is sent to the minors then I say go for it. All it would cost is money and Wirtz has lots of that. Gomez will want no part of the Eastern Conference and that is what he would get with this year's schedule.

However, if Toronto is willing to absorb a chunk of Connolly's cap hit, he would be a nice fit on a run and gun offence because he is highly skilled.

Why would any team want to add a spoiled millionaire who brings nothing to the room and in my opinion is a distraction to any hockey team in the NHL. You want character players with heart. A leopard never changes its spots!

Not great. Not much worse than the guys they have right now, but definitely doesn't improve the team at the dot. Put him with a Sharp/Hossa...could be lights out. He has offensive prowess to work out great with those guys. Would allow Bolland to go to 3c which improves the team greatly as that 3rd line is looking shaky right now. Hell, with Connolly's injury history, Bolland might get his shot at 2c anyways.

With Connolly, there is potential there and the Blackhawks wouldn't be any worse for taking a shot on him.
