I will never forget watching froelic stand there as toews was getting worked over by two guys and he did nothing. HIS sackless self needs to go

Looks like everyone was late to the scene. At least O'D had his scrotum on...unlike a lot of the other chicken squid on our team.

After Torres gets f'd up...let's Jagoff Joe Thornton our next target. Never liked that cheap shottin' pr i ck.

As JJ hinted at,Saad should act as motivation to guys like Bickell to get going.Contract year for Bicks,if he is a no show then nothing motivates him!I agree that Saad needs to earn top 6 minutes, competition on the bottom 6 can't hurt.

Oduya sucks dude. He isn't a 2nd pair d-man.

You're severely high if you think he is.

- JoeHawks88

Joe, dude, you seriously haven't seen the fact he is quick up-ice and positionally solid in his own zone.

I would love for you to name a odzen guys who are actual number fopur defensers you think are better.
Just remember you name a 2 or a 3 everyone on the board will call you on it.

As far as Saad making the roster:

Good for him. Mobile big body that doesn't need weight room work.
It doesn't hurt for him to get another taste to see where he actually helps right now.
He isn't a first line but maybe he plays up to his original hype and we get a younster who can actually get some major league experience on the third line or fourth and bring some added scoring and playmaking.

As far as development, I really don't think it hurts him long term to be with the big club right now. It,in fact, lights afire on others.
This isn't a thin, or slow and dumb guy in terms of his hockey IQ.
He comes in better equiped than Hayes to play because of his feet and hands.
Hayes goes down with a burning desire to get back.

And if he doesn't score, Saad will have to show/prove his other attributes to see tick...and not sit in the press box...

The one that takes the body I'm guessing.

Stan = fail.

Again.

One the one that plays like a seventh defenseman...

A game every two days means ample oppostunity for guys to play, and I think the key from the start was NOT to overhorse Seabrook & Keith.

I think you will any of the others sitting from time to time.
Conditioning or not, a week training camp in a strike compacted schedule means injuries...

Why are people all of the sudden shocked that Brandon Saad made the big club? Did everyone forget that he saw some time in the Phoenix series last year?
- dan9189

You all fooled me with the "Saad made the club" statement!

He amde the club last year too.

Am I wrong to read the kids words and translate them differently than making the team?
Here they are:
"It's really exciting knowing I'm going on the trip," Saad said following Day 5 of training camp at the United Center. "I'm just looking forward to hopefully getting some (ice) time.

"It's a huge step for me and it's nice to be a part of the team."

So...maybe he was told you staying, going on the trip, and we will see how it goes...

On another posted subject of "one plus two is trade:"

Someone stated Ottawa still has 3 goalies on the "final roster."

Teams have until 3 p.m. Friday to get to a 23-man roster.

Probably wondering how to write a column that is not a repeat of what he has been saying for two years, now going on three.

2C?

Goalie upgrade?

Identity?

He spent some time during the lockout playing for the Anchorage Aces and was a healthy scratch a few times. Need more be said?

HA! No, nothing more needs to be said. That seals it for me

Yup, the certainly want to have lots of horses out the gate, for just that reason, that the core gets nicked and needs the bottom to share the scoring load.

I fervently believe that is a big concern with the core guys...making sure the other forwards and dee-men are fresh and eating more minutes, and you will be fresh if the reserves repalce you.

If Monty is injured, he will likely be on LTIR so his money wouldn't be on the cap anyways. Olesz will likely be bought out because after this year you won't be able to stash players in the AHL without taking a cap hit.

Blackhawks are actually in a pretty damn good cap position as of right now.

- HawkFan27

There is no LTIR in the offseason. Monty will count against the cap then (like Pronger does each year for Philly). No LTIR in the offseason screws up 2 things... 1) offseason acquisitions and 2) the space allowed for signing contract extensions during the season (a la Matt Carle)

Agreed !! 100% . Everyone on the ice when that happenes should have gotten sent home from the trip. The Hawks had zero response.

Yeah, I someone is gonna blame Frolik for not not flaying his arms around after things were on the "settle" he just gets a need less penalty. Wanna blame Hossa too, who was tehre as it was going down?

Last year, when the already concussed but still playing (?) Toews had Thornton purposefully go at him was to me the darkest moment of the season.

Big Joe has been accused of other cheap shots (Blues- Perron) but I respect how Joe plays...I just want to see payback Feb. 5th. because that to me was planned action.
Bollig has to answer that in a situation where Joe gets clocked and knows why...

I am sorry, but there are some parts of the game that I will never get out of my system, and paying him back is numero uno.

It's a phuckin' tight rope. We need a good start but we don't want to burn out the core in pursuit of that goal.

Thornton's an uber pus sy who is quick with the lumber and slow to shed his flippers...love the tuneup the Big E gave him a few years ago. Love to see a Tomahawk-authored encore

Bowman fiddles while the Hawks chances burn. Freakin Gomez! I'd be better coming out of retirement for depth at Center!

Should be plenty of fodder for the 2nd guessers...like us...if Q and co...don't allocate ice time wisely.

If Q has issues with his bosses he won"t solve them by whipping his stars. He went that route in the past and it only put himself under the microscope. The team didn't fold on him last year, but it may have been close. If he can manage his players properly,he can deflect the heat upwards towards management.Let it just become about the results that the players given to him can get.The fact that lines must be rolled this year, may take some of the politics out of the coaching equation.

That's only a problem if you spend actual money in the offseason. Stan has shown he will only shop at the bargain bin.

Darkest moment of the season - you got that right! I think I recall flipping out on New to Hockey later that night but it may have been someone else.

Team allowed their captain to be abused and they all stood there and watched. I knew right then and there the Hawks were one and done in the playoffs. Just like I knew the Canucks were toast when they let that little puke Marchand abuse Sedin and did nothing about it.

I don't look for Bollig to be the undefeated heavyweight champion of the Western Conference, but he's in the lineup for a reason just like John Ferguson was there to look after Henri Richard, Yvan Cournoyer and a few others. If he can accomplish that, he's worth having on the team.

And I subscribe to the Gordie Howe memory bank theory - it doesn't have to be the next game or even next season but there will be a day to even the score. It took him 3 years to retaliate against Bobby Baun for a check he didn't like. And then he stood over Baun as he lay on the ice and said he considered the score settled and the case closed.
