You did not drink too much. If anything, you did not drink enough. It was a buckcherry show, therefor, you should have drank yourself to death before they started playing.

I'd like to disagree with you a little.

His defense isnt ok, its brutal. He is a purely offensive guy that can hit. His hitting has slowed down a lot because people expect it from him. He is absolutely horrid infront of his own net. What he does have is size, and is tough to move off the puck when he drives with it. He also has a blistering shot.

I also hate his decision making. He gets caught out of position way too much. If you removed Gunnarson from his line, you would see the flaws in his game more. How many times Gunnarson is sent on 2-1s, 1-1s, or even 3-1s was ridiculous.

He takes stupid penalties a lot of the time that pisses me off. As a captain, you should only be taking necessary penalties.

Now that being said, I would gladly take him as my #3 D-man for $3.5-$4.0M

But as our #1 D at $6.5M, Someone else can easily take him off of our hands, if they give the right pieces back.

His hitting is just fine.
He's able to knock players like Malkin and Ovechkin off their feet. That is not an easy task.
His defense sucked because Ron Wilson's structure sucked. Wilson wanted a D rushing up the ice like a 4th forward. That's why Gunnarsson would be left on his own if there was a turnover. And since Wilson wanted to play a puck carry and possession game and not a dump and chase, it led to a lot of turnovers at the blue line.
His penalties are not that bad. 92 PIMS when he did have a few fighting majors and 10 minute misconducts in there. More often than not, he was called for roughing after the whistle (not a bad thing, unless you want him to just get punched in the face like the Sedins), tripping and hooking (due to being out of position because he was told to rush the puck)

I like Phaneuf as well. I don't think he's the best dman in the league or anything, I'm well aware of his short comings, but I still like him.

I don't understand why his shot is so horribly inaccurate though. I don't expect every shot he takes to be right under the crossbar blocker side but at least if he puts it low and gets some rebounds it would help.

That being said, I've always much prefered someone to shoot for the corners or five hole as opposed to the Jason "shoot it right at his logo" Blake method.

- deerow84

ya Jason Blake was brutal. It was worse for Blake because he wasn't shooting it through traffic either. He would pull up right in front of the opposing goalie and shoot it right at him.

I think Phaneuf could afford to aim for the middle of the net a bit more just becuase of the traffic a point shot goes through and the increased chances of tips or deflections.

Having said that, after watching the Jamie Maclenan bit on TSN recently where he and Phaneuf had a shootout I do respect that bullet of a shot. Aiming for the ears is a pretty good idea.

PS, one thing I really like about Phaneuf. All of his massive hits are completely clean.
He always tucks his elbow down and holds it close to his chest and then drives through their chest with his shoulder. It's what you want to see in the game more often. He never leaps, never elbows, never targets the head.

RIGHT!?

been saying this for a while. Grab a mid-round pick to take him. I don't care if he may fall into the 2nd. Eliminate the risk of missing out. Not the biggest or most skilled player in the draft, but he's such a warrior, he'll find himself on the top-line no problem.

Even a pick would be nice. Given their roster troubles they'd not likely give up warm bodies
