Agreed. Not deserving IMO. - Gunslinger
plays the biggest, toughest minutes against the other team's top players, and he's primarily an offensive guy. His defense isn't that bad, but obviously it's gonna get exposed from time to time, against the most skilled guys. That's why he did so well with Aulie/Schenn as his partners. They could cover for his mistakes. Gunnar is good too... but he's not primarily a defensive guy.

He's one of my favorite players. - jbold
Yup, I'm definitly a Phaneuf fan. People expect too much because he is the captain. He is a perenial 40 point D-Man and has a bomb of a one timer. He just can't hit the net with it all that often.

He hasn't gotten a goalie, center, Dman to play with Phaneuf, his own hotdog house.

My only beef so far with Phaneuf has been his accuracy. Booming shot, but missed too often. |

Always aiming for the goalies ears. Can't physically save it.
Then again, he gets no time to set up anymore. Rushes the shot. Passes always in his feet. |

You know who would be good with this?
Antropov.
Guy was good at redirecting crazy shots. |

Don't think Antropov has a 12 foot stick to hold straight in the air. |

I'd like to disagree with you a little.
His defense isnt ok, its brutal. He is a purely offensive guy that can hit. His hitting has slowed down a lot because people expect it from him. He is absolutely horrid infront of his own net. What he does have is size, and is tough to move off the puck when he drives with it. He also has a blistering shot.
I also hate his decision making. He gets caught out of position way too much. If you removed Gunnarson from his line, you would see the flaws in his game more. How many times Gunnarson is sent on 2-1s, 1-1s, or even 3-1s was ridiculous.
He takes stupid penalties a lot of the time that pisses me off. As a captain, you should only be taking necessary penalties.
Now that being said, I would gladly take him as my #3 D-man for $3.5-$4.0M
But as our #1 D at $6.5M, Someone else can easily take him off of our hands, if they give the right pieces back. |

I like Phaneuf as well. I don't think he's the best dman in the league or anything, I'm well aware of his short comings, but I still like him.
I don't understand why his shot is so horribly inaccurate though. I don't expect every shot he takes to be right under the crossbar blocker side but at least if he puts it low and gets some rebounds it would help.
That being said, I've always much prefered someone to shoot for the corners or five hole as opposed to the Jason "shoot it right at his logo" Blake method. |

I completely agree with you here - never liked Phaneuf a bit..
I´d rather have Subban at 6.5M than Dion at the same cap hit..
Phaneuf was the main reason for Schenn´s departure, and I think Kessel, Lupul will follow shortly.. - His just not a likable person/teammate/captain..

They should improve and rebrand all of their food after current and former players.
1) Nonis nachos with Phaneuf "point shot" cheese (gets everywhere but where it should be!)
2) The Tucker chili fries (Piss and vinegar optional)
3) The Wellwood footlong jalapeno dog (one bite and you'll poop the bed!)
Any more suggestions? |

You did not drink too much. If anything, you did not drink enough. It was a buckcherry show, therefor, you should have drank yourself to death before they started playing. |
