its a new nhl, goons dont really have as much of a place on teams as they use to. - wingz4life
While I agree. Sabres fans believe that since they signed John Scott that things like when Lucic ran over Miller wont happen anymore. I laughed and said he could do it again and just choose to not fight the big goon. |

The Leafs have a Bernier in Reimer...they are just as proven as each other...no sense in rolling with two inexperienced guys. It's either grab a proven guy like Luongo, or stick with watcha got. |

remember when john scott was in CHI, easy to just simply skate around him.
Ott will be great for them, Scott will have little to no impact on the season |

Honestly i hate how everyone brings up the media, the media is useless. Everyone who is a leafs fan and understands hockey doesnt listen to that sh!t. Only the people who dont know anything about hockey or hate the sport will always follow that BS and continue thinking leafs are crap. The media is beyond stupid in toronto just to get lame hits that are not true always. Then people ask why the good players dont want to come here anymore. I think some violence is in order, stone cold stunner some of these media female doges |

this is true...however consider guys like Clowe, Lucic, D. Brown who can play a truculent game and produce...there was a thought in Toronto that Burke was going to be bringing in mean guys who can play...well....he brought in Brown and Frattin....bout it imo. Orr cant skate, Rosehill cant play hockey. - Colin Dambrauskas
He brought in far more than that. Beauchemin, Komisarek, Armstrong were all said to have that "grit" and "sandpaper". Mayers too, but he couldnt play all that well. Did it work at all? Not at all.
They do need to get meaner and tougher though, no denying that, but guys like Orr and Rosehill are not the answer. As you mentioned.
Its a fine line, guys like the ones you mentioned are really hard to find. |

He did Murder our Goon though. But our goon also didnt play half the season and didnt get any playoff time. Then got traded for a nice package. |

Not that good. Still blows my mind how in the last couple years when Quick was playing amazing for LA you still had all these morons at TSN, RSN and NBC drooling over him when he wasn't exactly lights out as a backup yet still they kept saying the LA net was sure to be his because Quick was merely a stopgap while he developed.
Seems they've finally backed off that. He's probably as good as Bobrovsky at the moment. Who knows if he could be better. He doesn't read plays particularly well and seems to lack a bit in the athleticism. Like he relies on the butterfly to make saves instead of using his butterfly to make a save. |

I remember in the playoffs a few years ago the CHI fans were going nuts about how he was going to be the bane of the entire western conference but all the top line players just kind of listed lazily to the left and he couldn't keep up. He's like Peter Worrell. |

well...I wouldnt go that far lol
If the Leafs managnment feel that they can compete in the playoffs within the next 2-3 years, grabbing Luongo is a good idea. Of all teams, they can afford to take on his contract and imo, dont have anyone aside from Reimer who might be able to hold the starter duties within the next 5 years.
Provided they dont give up any real assets, or pieces that could be effective in their foreseeable future, I think Luongo has the potential to be a good pick up for the Leafs. |

Yeah, we'll need them, for when we sign him, after you buy him out at the end of the season. |
|
|
|
yes, you have to get there first...and still theres basically zero fighting in the playoffs. - wingz4life
Remember what the Bruins did to the Nucks? Whether it was a huge hit or after the whistle horseplay, trucelence and grit tore the Nucks apart.
Your bottom six is as valuable as your top six in the playoffs.
But 'goons' or 'fighters' who can't play a two way game or be a defensive specialist are essentially worthless.
Good for entertainment but that's about it. |

Out of him and the other mid-20something goalies that all king of came in the league at the same time (Dubnyk, Rask, Schneider, Varlamov, Price, Halak, Pavalec, Mason) he's really only markedly better than Mason. |

Its not a matter of affording the contract. Its the impact that contract has on the salary cap. For at least the next 7 years. What if Reimer or Scrivens are pretty good goalies? Then what? I think wingz was right. You dont add a soon to be 34 year old to help you compete in 2-3 years, to a team that has an average age in the mid 20's. |

Dude 2-3 years really? more than that. You have kipper still kicking and he does amazing still. Luongo is similar down the lines. Maybe 4-5 years. But i look around 4 years |
