I've been down this road before, so i'll skip to the end of he game to save a few hours. How do we solve it? Lay down our arms, and hope the criminals do the same? Stop production of all guns tomorrow, and hope the 200 million weapons already in circulation gradually disappear? You're continually pointing out an obvious problem, but like everyone else in the world, you have no effective means of correcting the issue. Legislation only curtails those so inclined to obey. Do we form an SS group and have them conduct house to house sweeps for firearms? Think of the scale of this problem. It's an epidemic. I sound defeatus, but only because we're defeated. It's like walking into a cockaroach infested apartment with a can of bug spray. Sit back and enjoy the show.

I don't like arguing too bitterly with people I like on this board.

So my last argument is this.

Throwing your arms up and saying that change is impossible or too difficult has never solved any problem, anywhere, any time.

Other countries have made the transformation.

Open my mind? Why dont you?

This is old. You keep fighting to take more rights away from us and we will fight to keep them.

You will eventually thank us for it.

Good night. Stay safe. Remember.. throw tour shoes at the guy breaking into your house. Much more effective then a gun!

- Flyersgod

How many of us have ever had a guy with a gun break into our homes only to have to shoot the guy? Anyone?

that's the problem with you, and your country. you've all accepted that having a basement full of guns is your 'right', and the country you live in has validated that.

take your small minded bullpoop somewhere else.

i hope no one you ever care about is impacted by a violent gun crime. that would really sting knowing you've force fed people all this bullpoop about guns being the greatest thing to happen to the ol US of A.

Ever heard of swaziland?

If you pick just a small country.. then dont use our country stats. Use state stats. Only way to be dair about it.

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over HERE in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future, for our children.

Countries our size doesnt work. Look what happened to russia and china. In russia they told everyone to hand in their guns.. and they complied.. they were all shot when they arrived to turn them in. 21 years ago that happened.

Things are what they are. You make small changes where you can. Sweeping reform is as inefficient as my method of throwing your hands up. As I said in my original statement, the answer is somewhere in between and both sides need to get over their agendas and seek that answer. Until that happens, nothing will change, and the whole world will be embroiled in an endless debate. Humans are creatures of action, and would rather act brashly and exasperate the problem, than not act until they have a solution.

Never had anyone break into my home and I live in the Greater Toronto Area, which is something like the 6th largest metropolitan area in NA.

If they DID break into my home, there is a good chance they would not be carrying a gun.

It happens, but less often than the U.S.

ergo... my odds are better than yours. You simply cannot dispute that.

Let me guess: "Ya well, those other countries don't have as many people as America."

I think you meant to say exacerbate.

I just don't get how come meaningful change hasn't at least started? How come the dinosaur gun lobbyists still appear to be winning.

I am not being sarcastic. I really don't understand that.

Change in Canada took a long time. It was a gradual process. The real big change was in the 1970's. I still remember my uncle b1tching about it. I would have been 10 or 11 at the time.

Canada does have a right to bear arms... under specific circumstances. We did not get there immediately though.

It's a lot like drinking and driving.

There is no magical solution. There will always be deaths.

But things need to change. better laws. More education. A culture change.

And a helluva lot less rhetoric from both sides.

I had a guy walk into my house one night. I was single and about 23. He walked in like he owned the place and just stared at me. I asked him why the hell he was in my house, and he refused to respond. I drew my pistol, aimed it at him, and he walked out before i could say another word. I never really felt threatened, but his boldness and refusal to answer my simple question put me on guard. Did i save my own life? Maybe? Was he just some drunk guy that walked in the wrong apartment? Maybe. I'll never know.

neither even makes the list of top 75 firearm related deaths per capita?

is that what happened? the US is top 10. with jamaica, honduras, guatemala, mexico, and columbia in the same category.

whatever china and russia did, would be great for the US to try out.

ooooohhh.. i know what happened. russia stopped building up their arms arsenal when the cold war ended.

i literally haven't locked my doors in 3 years. we don't even have a (frank)ing key to our house.

my wife locked herself out once, and i had to use the garage door opener in the truck to get her in.

. i live in canada.

also, i havent taken the keys out of my truck in 3 years.

You know why. Everyone knows why. Money and power. Gun manufacturing is big money and more importantly, even questioning the "gun question" is political suicide. The only people with the power to make changes are hamstringed by the fact that if they tried they would be voted out of power long before they got anywhere.

He had both hands in his pockets, and I was only wearing my boxers and a wife beater. I wasn't about to ask the guy to box.
