coolest part of that statement is definitely that there's a part in the world where someone can utter the words "they weren't his guns, they were his mothers".. and not for a second does someone consider this to be marginally abnormal.

but at the end of the day, in terms of firearm related deaths per capita, the US is near the top of the list surrounded by third world countries, countries that have suffered from cartel wars, civil wars... so on and so forth. south africa has a better rate than the US?

the US around 10.2.. france the next worst first world country at 3.0.. the remainder of most notable countries between 2ish.. and 0.07

so what has the rest of the world figured out that the good ol US can't seem to wrap their minds around?

no one has to live in the US to understand that,... that's one (frank)ed up stat.

Every country is unique. Some of the countries you are comparing us to could fit neatly inside a single state. Things get harder as they get bigger. Its like the people that say socialized medicine works in Canada and therefore should work in the USA. We have a population that "per capita" is amongst the richest in the world. The third world countries you compare us to cant even afford rice to feed their starving children, so i would assume owning a firearm is a low priority. People throw around cooked numbers and think they understand the problem, and can solve it with weak laws. The problem runs so much deeper and all the numbers in the world won't change that.

There is really no point debating this. There will be minimal changes that actually have a chance passing congress. Also, gun sales will go through the roof to start off the year. Which im sure was the intended outcome of this.

you can't argue that decreasing access maximizes incidents. it's ridiculous.

We've been fighting that war since the early 80s. The War on Drugs has been an epic failure. It is basically accepted at this point in time that we cannot keep drugs from entering our borders. So.... tell me how do we effectively ban something that is already rampantly distributed throughout our entire infrastructure. It would be like trying to remove all of the salt from the Atlantic ocean.
