Brandon Sutter looks like he'll be a nice fit.

He's a Sutter, I doubt that he will ever take a shift off.

What are the line combinations going into the season?
- AlfieisKing

Apparently something along the lines of:
Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis
Neal-Malkin-Bennett/Tangradi/winger TBD
Cooke-Sutter-Kennedy
Glass-Adams-Vitale/Jeffrey

obviously subject to change on a whim.

So a few thoughts from last nights scrimmage. It was very sloppy seemed to tighten up a little towards the end of the 1st then it started to resemble an all star game defensively. Bennett was outstanding in the first the guy is highly skilled and it showed. I think they cut his ice time to avoid the controversy because Tangradi has to clear waivers. I know it was 1 scrimmage game but Tangradi just doesn't fit. He loses every puck battle even in a scrimmage game where people weren't going full speed. Despres and Morrow were as expected made some descent plays but defensively had lapses. Sutter looked every bit as good as we were hoping for. Orpik looked strong and TK played really well. My biggest surprise was I wasn't impressed with 87. Thought he would dominate, maybe he is leaving it in neutral until saturday.

Only time I noticed Jeffry is when he took a big hit. And in warm ups I think he scored on every shot he took. For whatever reason they don't like him.

sleeping with someones daughter?

I dont get why he is getting a bum deal, I think he can play, seems the coaching staff are hell bent on breaking him and I dont know why?

This is exactly how I saw the game too.

Tangradi just doesn't seem to be an NHL player. His reaction time is too slow. Trade him now before they put much more of him on tape.

I agree on Sid.... In fact, his whole line didn't impress....though Kunitz looked pretty good. To me it looked like rust. Sort of like early regular season games where guys aren't entirely ready for the real thing.

You didn't mention Letang and Malkin.... Both of those guys looked great. Letang's skating was awesome.

Last years whipping boy, Martin, played a sound game. Never attempted to do anything over his head....hopefully that continues.

I just watched the highlights of the game. I see TK finally scored from the goal line. How often do you think he'll try that this yr? Looked like everyone was about 70%

Jeffery didn't exactly shine last night. I actually expected a little more out of him considering he had been playing over seas. Just very average at best. I think he gets waived or remains a healthy scratch until they need him. He had plenty of ice time to do something and didn't. His shootout attempt was borderline pitiful.

On the other hand... I think Vokoun is still looking for his jock from Megna's shootout attempt.

Yes Letang and Malkin played the way I expected them to. I think Martin will have a solid year playing with Orpik and TK looked motivated last night. So fans will have to find someone else to bag on and I'm going on record and calling Tangradi for the reasons you mentioned above. Letang may be my favorite player to watch skate.

thanks for the little update. Nice to hear Bennett looks awesome and Despres and morrow look to be on the right track. I bet Crosby wasnt at full throttle though. I mean have you ever scrimmaged against teammates? Its just not the same as a real game.

As for Tangradi, TRADE HIM ALREADY. tag him along with Lovejoy or something. If he would actually use his size and bang bodies then maybe he could be a 4th liner

Bennett and Despres are going to be victim's of their waiver status, especially Despres. I agree with Will DePaoli's logic. Shero will most likely try to move a defensemen in the coming days while being able to stash Despres in WB/S without the threat of losing him to a waiver claim.

Glad to read some of the reports from last night. Seems like Sutter is going to be great.

The roster has to be set tomorrow at 3PM. The Pens don't skate today, it will be interesting if they make their moves today or tomorrow morning.

EDIT:
James Mirtle ‏@mirtle
In order to get under 23-man limit tomorrow, teams are going to have to waive players today, so we'll know many cuts around noon.

I've seen things where they've said they might keep 8 D-men on the roster. That can only be until they move someone, right? When healthy, the 7th guy barely plays, why have someone rot in the 8th spot?

Seems like Bennett is forcing their hand a bit. I been a backer of keeping Tangradi out of camp, but from what I've read, he was invisible last night. I really have no idea what his trade value is... maybe a 5th? I mean, there has to be some GMs willing to take a shot on a big power forward who puts up decent numbers in the AHL.

Yeah, if Bennett & Despres get sent down, you gotta think it's a short term thing. Once injuries start to hit teams, if it's the Pens, they can help fill in, or cheap guys like Lovejoy or Tangradi will have a little more trade value to other teams. If a team has a player out for like 4-6 weeks, bringing in one of those two guys makes sense. They have some experience, and have very little cap impact.

my thoughts exactly. maybe tangradi with malkin is just a little stint to hopefully boost his trade value. If thats the case, put lovejoy on one of the points on the PP

Yeah, I just read that myself. Makes sense instead of losing a guy for nothing.

I thought Stait looked pretty good last night.....better than Bortuzzo. Bortuzzo has a little of that Tangradi thing going on.... just doesn't look fluid with/against NHL players.

I think it's time to cut bait with Tangradi, and I hope it is Beau that stays, I know it will probably be thopposite because of waivers, but IMO, it's time to move Tangradi while he has some worth.

Sutter looked real good last night!

Agreed. I'm concerned that the D pairings are largely inexperienced and soft.

Tangradi does not have worth on the trade market any more than Luke Adam in the Buffalo organization (which is none).

Then I hope Ray has the stones to go with the better player and if it risks Tangradi through waivers....so be it

just seeing those highlights has me so excited. i knew sutter would be good, but he looks like he is going to be a major part of the team. and that malkin wrister, scrimmage or not, is a thing of beauty
