I definitely think tweaks to the system will have to be made. That much is obvious. They don't have the mobility they did last year. A coach tweaking his system to get the best out of the players on hand isn't revolutionary or miraculous, it's what a good coach does.

Also, I wouldn't exactly discount Murray. Yes the Kings went on a run after he was let go, but people scoffed at the notion that Sutter was going to be better. The players bought in and stepped up their games as Sutter used Murray's system...and rode Quick.

- Jsaquella

My issues with Murray are two fold. I personally dont buy into reactionary systems and especially not with the current design on this team.

The second is I think he is a terrible motivator who doesnt hold his players accountable enough. I get nightmares of our old friend Johnny Stevens whenever I think of him.

LA was screaming for him to get fired for a season + . The team finally played well once he was shown the door. He struggled to get a stacked team into the playoffs, and had them playing in mediocrity the whole team he was there.

I am not talking about Murray. Same breed as Stevens.

To be fair, the King got health late in the season and on into the playoffs. Some players were just too inconsistent ...Penner.

The Flyers are giving away $5 off team hats and discounts on concessions at the practice being held tomorrow night at the Wells Fargo Center....and that's it.

That's what happens when the number of people who cancel their season tickets because of the lockout get doubled by the people ordering season tickets as soon as the lockout ends.

- Jsaquella

Yup. The "I'm staying away all season and maybe the next" crowd sure has quieted down.

What a joke. Everyone is able to do what they wish but I could never imagine buying merchandise after a slap in the face like that. Discounts for two games? Grab my nuts, and pinch my nipples, I've won the lottery!

I think the team will struggle this year as it is. I would love for them to get on a tear but I dont see it.

Its unfortunate because I was really hoping to see Bryzgalov bounce back, which he is still fully capable of doing. I just hoped the Flyers would have really tried harder to upgrade the blueline to help him out. With so many question marks on D, and an exhausting condensed schedule I dont have high hopes.

I look to see if Bryzgalov can return to form and steal games like he did in Phoenix, and the continued development of the young kids on the team. Analyze next summer, and upgrade the blueline like it should have been.

- flyer_nutter

Well they haven't played a game yet, so it remains to be seen how unfortunate it is. How much harder can they have tried. They made a strong move to try and get the best defenseman in the game. Who else was available?

Based on the defense pairings in practice, coupled with the good news of Meszaros likely being ready to start the season it appears Foster has jumped Lilja and Gervais on the depth chart.
- PLindbergh31

That was pretty much a given when they signed him. They need help on the PP, and he's Rh with a big point shot.

If they can get the same return for Scott Laughton as they can for Jake Voracek, I say adios Scott, best of luck
- Jsaquella

Partly why I think he stays up with the big club.

NHL experience has the potential to make him much more attractive to other teams.

I agree. Forster has been here like three days and apart of me already wants him on waivers. I am seriously worried about this defense.

The Devil have won 3 Stanley Cups in 15 years with a "reactionary" system.

As a coach, the task is to find the best way to utilize your personnel. Not every good coach is a rah-rah guy. And you'd be wrong in Murray not holding guys accountable. He's not a cheerleader, but he's also not a pushover.

People always love to place blame.

If the Flyers miss the playoffs or go out early.

Bryzgalov? Management? Lava?

I still don't plan on going to games, or buying merch....although I am tempted to get Game Center Live. I also never said Id never return. My plan was to skip this season and return next all along.

Cloutier saying Klefbom is a better prospect than Schenn and Couturier. Thoughts?
- NickTheKid87

First of all, it's apples to oranges because Klembom is a defenseman.

Secondly, while Klefbom a very promising young player who has shown ability both internationally and with Färjestad, he's not NHL ready yet whereas Schenn (a 2009 draftee) and Couturier (like Klefbomm a 2011 1st rounder) are already important members of an NHL team.

That said, I'd kill for the Flyers to have some D-men in the system of Klefbom's potential to be a top 3 at the NHL level.

Oh, and Shea Weber isn't being traded... not to Edmonton, not the Flyers, not to anywhere. He's going to be an Predator for a looooooong time to come.

The Devils had big star power, and players suited to play such a style.

I hate it but if the team got top level goaltending and really improved the back end I could live with a scheme like that. Would still prefer something more aggressive however.

History is full of situations where teams were screaming for a Coach to be fired. And it's happened to a lot of quality Coaches. It's the nature of the profession. Terry Murray is a very good Coach. And he has a large hand in LA winning the Cup, and he provided a basis there.

I'm not seriously worried about the defense. I have concerns, certainly, but I think that the top 4 is pretty solid, and if Meszaros can return, even at 80%, they will be OK with what is on hand.

It does depend what they are asked to do. They will have to tweak things a bit with the loss of Carle.
