If they are going to allow the buy out, they should force the "bought out" players "Gomez" n "Redden" to only be able to sign at league minimum with another club. Hopefully nobody is dumb enough to pay them more. Then again, Glen Sather is still a current GM.

Yeah....Sather is an idiot. He turned Gomez into McDonagh and built a Stanley Cup favorite.

Guy is a complete idiot.

Are the Canadiens foolish to not only pay him his full salary, but take his enormous cap-hit and allow him to suit up for a competitor this season?

How many players do the Habs have under contract?

50 is the limit.....buying out Gomez now might allow them to sign Kristo once his season is over and that will make Pecafanfan VERY happy.

I don't get it. We bought him out. I doubt they thought for long that he may help a competitor so ummed and aaargghd over it. Buy out Gomez. He's proper junk. Don't worry if he may help someone else or not. I would hazard a guess he won't.

They are getting there full salary. It's up to them if they want to sign another contract. If Reddon doesn't want to play in the A he will likely not sign and just retire.
As for Gomez. He'll likely sign another deal for around 1 - 1.5 Mill and it won't be to be sent down. This extra Mill is all gravy.

I fail to see how this is any way negative for them.

By not reduce the cap hit of buying out a player, instead of buying out the players (which they have to do before saturday and that makes the player a FA RIGHT AWAY) teams might try to waive them...

Buy him out now and cut him loose.

Don't need this story hanging around any longer than it has to be.
