No one has heard anything yet except Hutton is on waivers right ? Do the Hawks practice today ? Has anyone gone missing ?
- mrpaulish

Nothing special from practice. One minor thing, Leddy did not do some of the defense drills but was on the ice.

If that's the case, I do that in a heartbeat.

From a purely asset management standpoint. Consider:

a)The Hawks currently have 7-8 D-men at the NHL level. Leddy plays a similar game to Keith and Oduya.

b)Clendening and Leddy are for the most part the same kind of prospect. Reading the tea leaves, it seems like the organization is really high on Clendening. Would it be great to keep Leddy and Clendening and get rid of Oduya down the line? Of course, but Oduya's not going anywhere anytime soon

c) The organization has no blue-chip goaltending prospect. Not even a light-blue chip prospect between the pipes. Considering you have a similar prospect to Leddy in Clendening, you're trading from a position of surplus (puck-moving Dman) to fill a need (goaltending depth).

The argument can be made that you're trading a NHL player for an AHL player, but really, both Leddy and Lehner are 21 and predicting either of their futures is a crapshoot right now. This organization needs a G prospect, and if you can get a guy like Lehner for Leddy, you do it.

- Hawksfan37

Right on. Leddy or Hammer for a real G . Then prospects for a real center. Hopefully something has gone down to that effect.

Bollig can’t do much with the puck on his blade, except he has an elite (yes, elite) release on a laser wrist shot

Two possibilities:

Due to his contract status he might have to be re-enry waivered to be brought up. Although that seems really unlikely. Or they have made a deal and added a goalie. If they made the deal that was close over the weekend (or similar—which was a defenseman for a goalie) then they might need to make room by losing a goalie.

I thought I read somewhere the re-entry waiver process was eliminated in the new CBA.

You seen it? Guy can really fire the puck. Like I said, not much else to his offensive game, in fact nothing. but he can blast it.

Dunno, regardless, it is unlikely as I'm CERTAIN he was/is on a 2-way deal anyway.

Actually saw him score on a slapper in Toronto. His wrister is legit, but that slapper was a revelation. It would have made Brett Hull blush.

I think moving Nick Leddy would be a huge mistake. The kid has been forced into a role right off the bat and has taken his lumps. A vendetta with his agent is not means to lose out on a 21 year old with plenty of upside.

I have a better idea. Bowman takes off his sissy pants, makes the deal with Ottawa for one of their 3 goalies, who are better than Crawford, and Zach Smith and makes the team a true Cup contender
- furso27

Stan's in love with his 'prospects' and will never make a big trade, unless we are dumping established players off for more 'prospects'.

My understanding is OTT wanted more than Leddy, thus the deal died. Would not surprise me at all if the deal has not been revisited. Both teams have obvious needs.
- John Jaeckel

Ottawa should want more IMO. I guess it depends on how much more they want. If you can add a Mark McNeill or Kevin Hayes to Leddy, you gotta make the trade if you're Stan. Even if you have to add a first rounder to that, I still would probably do it. Lehner is a potential franchise goalie and would be on his ELC and should be ready for the NHL level now. This could be the type of move that puts you over the top.

I'd hate to see McNeill included. Still have a good feeling about him being a Troy Murray type Hawk for a long time.

I am well aware. This was my suggestion of what should happen not what will happen. But who knows? There is a first time for everything.

This.

Would love to see Lehner between the pipes.

It's probably just some administrative necessity somehow linked to the number of contracts. I'm just spitballing here, but if a deal were made I'm not sure why Hutton would need to be waived. I know there are tonnes of possibilities for this, but it doesn't make sense.

I 2nd this, he's the prospect I've been following most this year. Sadly though, between Danault, Teravainan and Saad he could be the off man out.

According to Chris Block (via Twitter) Hutton has been placed on waivers for the purpose of reassigning him to Rockford.

Could be because of a trade he needs to be waived bc of the number of contracts coming and going. Even so, why put him on waivers and risk losing him unless you had something coming to replace him?

True enough on hating McNeill being part of a package. I'm looking forward to him being parked in front of the crease on the PP.

On the Goalie front, what are the Hawks going to do with Mac Carruth once his season is done?

Maybe.. but you gotta give to get. Stan needs to put on his big boy pants and get us a real goaltender.

He does. Don't know much about Lehner other that he's big and has a good AHL record. I'm willing to roll the dice with Craw at least one more time.

Real simple here guys...

You can try to mask the fact that the Hawks really have no one to help Toews on the dot

You simply will not win a Stanley Cup with Corey Crawford in net. Anyone that genuinely believes that is fooling themselves. Stan Bo etc know this - they HAVE to know this. And he must be aggressive in trying to get a solid improvement in net.

I'm just pissed--this team is ready to win RIGHT NOW with some of their core already aging. The fact that they continue to turn a blind eye to the goalie mess is a complete joke.
