I think the plan is to use Shaw....

Then probably Stalberg, which should be interesting to watch.

But at this point Q. will get desperate quickly.

Bollig could be next in line.

- Al

I like the fact that they are at least trying some different guys. We traded comments the other day about this and though Shaw is not ideally the big body I think either one of us prefer for this job, he at least has the willingness to go to the front of the net. His body of work is small but I am hoping he keeps it up and it translates into more success this year. I'm also hoping it rubs off on a guy like Bickell, ideally this should be his job but he seems to have fallen in love with his shot from the top of the circles and doesn't go to the dirty areas enough. I'm using hope too much aren't I?

Did Oduya log any PP time last year? Maybe when Keith was suspended?
- nickmo2699

I recall he did...and looked good...during the regular season

- philco28

Did he get much time on the PP in the playoffs or is that what you were implying? I don't remember him getting a lot of time there during the playoffs but I'm still trying to blot the whole thing from memory.

While Oduya may not be the ideal point guy on the PP with the cannon shot at least he was able to get shots through and on net. Maybe DK needs glasses or contacts.

Not sure if 27 was on the pp at all in the playoffs...i absolutely loved the guy when he came over and raved about him day in, day out on this board...only to have him shi t himself in the playoffs. Couldn't believe i was seeing the same player in the Phoenix series.

He won't admit to anything positive about Bolland.
- Ogilthorpe2

Correct, not a big Bolland fan. His success on the PP did NOT come from the point. For whatever that's worth to any of you. Nor did Sharp's. And I don't have an issue with either or both being on the PP. Just not at the point.

1 of those 2 guys is going to be at the point. Bolland might have the slowest windup on the club (if he's taking a slapper -- got no issue with his wrist or snap shot -- in fact, it's quite good! There you go, I just gave Bolland a compliment ).

He, with Leddy, were the 2nd PP unit in the playoffs. He also avged over 23 total min/ playoff game. 2-7 avged over 30 minutes as Q basically went to a 5 man rotation, which not only killed their legs/lungs but also made it a sh*t show for changes and knowing who you were on the ice with.

Our 3rd pairing HAS to play 17-18 mins this year and we have to be able to plug in pieces when someone gets hurt, rather than riding 2-7. It just won't be sustainable in the short season.

...which is probably why SB is hesitant to trade his depth/only willing to trade if he gets bowled over. No, he hasn't solved the 2C and G issue, but he made very good moves to add depth defensemen prior to the lockout, which fixed a glaring hole.

I really think Stan should overcome his fear of the phone and call the guy he wrongfully took over for to obtain Stephen Weiss.

.

So from a philosophical point of view, Jamie figured out what pretty much all of us have known all along: the drop pass coming out of our zone or at center ice is bullcrap and doesn't work.

Well that's genius. The result of that we've discussed as well. The larger issue is how/whether he can get Keith to stop that crap when he's been doing it for years. And how does he fix Keith's inability to play the point properly on the PP? The simple fact that he's still got Keith out there on the #1 unit is the biggest red flag to me that he does not know what he's doing. 2nd red flag is Bolland on the point on the 2nd unit. We've ridden that horse before as well and it doesn't work. Bolland at the point will cause more -'s for that unit than PP goals scored.

The PP issues are well-documented here, but to me the PK was an even bigger embarrassment. Our forwards neither blocked a lot of shots nor pressured the puck, they basically hung out in no-man's land and tried to look busy. The result being that opposing point men could tee it up from the blue line with impunity, while their forwards crashed the net and pushed around our (other than Seabrook) Charmin-soft defensemen. Brilliant strategy! Hello, Q? Where are you? I knew crap like this in high school.

I'm no fan of Crawford either, but that's hardly a recipe for success for your team's goaltending tandem.

Agreed....and Q and co....MUST AVOID burning out any of our top 10 guys with heavy minutes early on.

This season will be a real test for every player and coach in the league. Everyone knows a fast start or at least good start is paramount, but the temptation to over use key personnel in pursuit of said goal, will be difficult to avoid. Ice time management will be the biggest test for every head/assistant coach in the league.

I agree. Hopefully Shaw and Kruger can take some pressure off the top 2 lines. If Saad makes the team that will help with the depth too. I'd like to see at least one of Frolik and Bickell find their game this year. They depth of defense is much better too (compared to last year). I am anxious to see what Rozsival brings to the team.

Charmin-soft defensemen? are you referring to Steady Leddy... he's still trying to find his jill from the last marlies game

I think the dance partners are there. Bowman is gun shy and he has a committee around him second-guessing (or over-ruling) every deal. That's why he doesn't make any. I would bet a lot of money on it.

Definitely hope SOMEONE, ANYONE from lines 3 and 4 steps up offensively this year. Rozsival and Brookbank look like good fits for the club and should be relied on for quality minutes right from the outset.

Agree. On paper the lines seem to have some balance though I'm sure Q will juggle p huck out of them so it may be hard to tell what they'll like a month from now.

I did like the Rozsival signing a lot as he was a guy besides Ekman Larssen for PHX who stood out on their defense to me in the playoffs...blocked a ton of shots and always seemed to be in one of our fwds faces.

My article for Friday takes on what you bring up....We have to rely on some hope and also the fact it isn't wise to sell young players short.

The question on Oduya is the same as Monty...

As a 4/5 guy which actually is more of a #5 they are pretty solid.

But the more ice time the more likely mistakes and that is exactly what you saw from Oduya last year.

Oduya played well and they piled on the ice time down the stretch and in the playoffs and it didn't work out well.

Not going to b.s. you, I don't know a lot about him. Statistically, he has improved every year at BC. They moved him to C a couple of years ago but it sounds like he plays all F positions.
- John Jaeckel

I actually saw Kevin Hayes play this weekend in BC against another ranked team in NH. He played a pretty sound game but nothing really stood out. I did notice a grit about him when things got a little chippy after BC took a 5-1 lead. An interesting thing of note, when on the PK they utilized him on defense. His skating looks a bit better than Jimmy but both have that wide leg skating style. He was definitely a big kid amongst the other kids.

In the transition game, he has good puck movement and views the ice well. Once again he was playing against other college kids but NH is a high ranked team as well.

Name this player!

Keeps opponents honest in the defensive zone with his physical style of play ... tough, rangy, defenseman with excellent size and reach ... plays the game with an edge ... is passionate about the game of hockey ... has worked on keeping his emotions in check on the ice ... makes life miserable for opposing forwards in front of his net and in the corners ... good open-ice hitter that forces opponents to know where he is at all times ... has made huge strides in developing his offensive skills ... strong skater with the ability to jump into the play ... has a strong, accurate shot from the point!

I'm curious if anyone will know who this is...

This is nuts, is there a scrimmage tonight? Are they streaming it on line? Amazing that everything is so secretive. Fans have been dying for a nibble and we get less info...no updates of any sort on team website all day....Somebody help me.
