Has anyone seen how the Flyers just royally screwed their fans today. Had a presale to purchase individual game tickets, and they DOUBLED the price on every seat in the house for every game. Not joking! Un-f'n-believable.

I think he's no longer a Flyer because L.A. made a great offer for him in trade.
- johndewar

I it was one of the reasons why he was on the trade block to begin with.

I think a lot of the issues with Richards and Carter were overblown. I do feel there were some issues, some that were very trivial that were treated like they were vital issues.

Do you think if those issues wernt there at least one of them would still be a flyer? Or was this just 2 teams called asking about 2 players with offers hommer couldn't refuse?

I expect nothing less then the regular fan getting screwed...
the big market teams will not suffer, the fringe teams will be the ones that suffer. that's why the lightning offered seasons tickets for as low as $200

They had more people buy season tickets since the tentative agreement was reached than who cancelled their tickets during the lockout. 4000 people showed up for the first day of camp.

The fans made it pretty clear that they'd return as soon as the hockey did. If you or I don't buy tickets there's 200 people behind us that will happily fork over the cash

I do think that the issues led to them being shopped, or at least played a role in it. That said, I also feel there was hockey reasoning behind it.

I think Carter would have been moved regardless; I think it would have gone down as a hockey trade no matter what.
The Richards one is a little harder to call. They got a guy they really liked in Simmonds as well as a player who was, at the time, one of the most coveted prospects in hockey who coach compared him to Mike Richards. And really, they do play a similar style, although Schenn's a little more low-key and doesn't seem like a rah-rah guy...at least not yet.
In ending my rant, the Carter trade would have happened, the Richards trade is a toss-up.

Down here in Dallas, they are offering FREE tickets to all kids under 12 for any Jan / Feb home game.

Got 4 (2 kids) tix for opening night on Sat (lower bowl @ face off dot row S) for $140

We sent Carter and Richards and in return (as a result of the trades) we got Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds, Couts, Grossmann, Voracek, Cousins...

I think we made out well... real well.

I freaked when I saw the trades at first, but with the new CBA, it really took us out of cap hell and stocked the cupboards with young talented forwards to provide depth. I can't imagine if we had Richie Carts and Bryz on these super long contracts. If Pronger hadn't been forced ot retire, we'd have all the pieces to seriously contend IMO

I was more OK with the Carter trade. I liked Carter, felt he took unfair criticism in Philly, but was OK with the return.

I was also Ok with the Richards return, but he's a guy that has won at every level he's played at, and served as captain of most of those winning teams. It's hard to move a guy that has that track record.

I do like the guys they got. Brayden Schenn may well turn out to be an even better player than Richards. Simmonds showed he can succeed in a scoring line role and still provide toughness.

I would go as far to say the trades wouldn't have been absent hockey reasons. Off-ice issues may have been a factor, but at most it only left Holmgren open to that option when weighing the long-term cap resources, immediate mandate for a goaltender, and a blossoming talent at center behind Frick & Frack.

I understand the demand and could even tolerate at 10-15% hike. You can't justify doubling the price per ticket for every seat in the house.

$400 for 2 lower bowl tickets for an islanders or canes game. F that. Save my $$$ for the playoffs.

I just wish in hindsight that they had obtained a young quality defenseman.

The Richards one irked methe most for the reasons you mention but it was a hockey trade and Homer showed a lot of balls making it. I'm actually glad that if we couln't win it all last year that Flyers west won it. So many deserving ex Flyers players finally got a cup ring.
