I think Read has the versatility to play on any line.

Not only play on any line, but be effective on any line. He is a rare bread player in my opinion. Not a star, but not a role player.. he is a jack of all trades type of guy who puts in a yeoman like effort everyday. Fantastic fine by Homer.

Lines 1-4: Yup.
PP: Sure
PK: Most certainly
OT: Speed rules
Gimmick Game: Oh yea.

If you can save 1/3 of real money by placing a Gomez or redden on the bench of each of their contracts why buyout now...what , save money , put player on the bench and give him the Shelly treatment
- huks99

Because the Rangers and Habs have told them to stay home and not bother reporting. The NHLPA will file grievances on that.

Plus, if you're bidding on a free agent down the road, is doing a solid for Redden or Gomez going to show a player that you're willing to have his back, and maybe encourage him to sign with your team?

Also, the savings are not astronomical. If the player is carried this year, they still have to pay his salary for the full season anyhow. In each case the actual savings would be around $1.5mm

Bob McKenzie reports that any accelerated buyouts would have to clear waivers first, so expect both Gomez & Redden on waivers tomorrow at noon

Can he tend goal? Well depends on who you are comparing him to.. Hes the best on our team, hands down. But then again we have a cosmonaut and a CPA as our goalies now.

They were reporting in Toronto that the Flyers raised ticket prices this season. Snider called in off air and told them that it wasn't true.

So now he's just a liar.

David Booth, out 4-6 weeks with a groin injury suffered DURING his physical.

He's better than Briere, or at least was in the Devils system.

In the right system he could be a solid player...don;t see that being the Flyers system. He needs structure, although he put up decent numbers with the Rangers.

Read's versatility, you need it and I will give the flyers credit, we've always had that. We had it with Umburger, who I think played on every line in his last season as a flyer, at every position. He may have not liked it but he did it. Marty Murray was another guy, although I don't think he ever sniffed special teams. Even Mike Richards and Keith Primeau have each had to do the same from top to bottom. I remember a game where John LeClair went down and it was strange to see it but Primeau was the Left Winger for the rest of the game.

Likewise, it's good to see Schenn will really get a chance to shine.
- BulliesPhan87

Glad to see Schenn on the top line. This makes sense, and it always has. Hope he can keep up w G and stay healthy.

Voracek should have spent less time drinking beer and more time shooting pucks. Sorry dude, we need to pair a scorer with G. Plus with Harts on the left either falling down or behind the play, we need somone that can skate and shoot.

nope, at least not before the summer. If they buy out Bryzgalov tomorrow, they still carry his cap hit for the 2013 season

So what's the deal with Laughton? Could he win the job?

Hartnell-Giroux-Schenn
Simmonds-Briere- Fedotenko
Voracek-Couturier-Read
Wellwood-Laughton-Talbot

We are definitely pretty damn deep on offense. Will be interesting to see how the lines shake out. Don't like Feds on Briere's wing though!

Laughton may get a look for the 5 games or so Briere will miss is my guess. Rinaldo will probably win a job on the 4th line out of camp from everything I've read.

JVR injured already... Holmgren swindled Burke.

Edit: X-rays negative on JVR's foot, he changes sweaters and his bones become less brittle.

From what I have read the kid fights and he is great defensively. If he is a clear upgrade from Rinaldo... i'm not so sure the Flyers hesitate to keep him up here. Just look how they have handled young kids recently.

I believe Wellwood was struggling mightily in the AHL prior to Flyers camp starting. I like the little bit I have seen from him, he's got speed to burn as well as having some skill. I think he may have fell out of favor somewhat with Laviolette, kinda the way Harry Z did.
