I guess tomorrow's waiver pickup will be Wade Redden...Rangers will buy him out today and waive him tomorrow...

I can see them trying to bring in Gomez for a year until Strome is ready

I was watching the NHL Channel's preview show and they were talking about the Fistric trade. they should a highlight of him versus ironically the Islanders. In the clip he flattened Okposo...the guy can hit...so he might be a good addition for Edmonton. Speaking of Edmonton, all their top picks are up with the big team and ours aren't...
- kear20

I also tuned into that broadcast. It was interesting when they started to discuss the Isles situation with Viz.

To a man they agreed that although the Isles desperately need help on "D".

The greater need is to cut ties with this guy immediately. Stop begging him. (their words)

They said that the Isles need to send a message to their own players that its an honor to play for this organization filled with Rich History and Great Players.

That the Isles want players who want to be here and...

If you dont want to be here. Dont let the door hit you on the rear end.

When the show analyzed the Isles team.

Three things were crystal clear to them. Under no circumstance should Griffin Reinhart or Strome be in the NHL this season. Imploring the Isles not to repeat the mistakes made with Bailey and Nino.

After JT , MM and Frans Nelsen. No one has stepped it up. Singling out KO & Grabner.

Until the Isles find another player similar to JT's talent level. They are going NO WHERE.

Yep, It was interesting.

Not worth 4 first rounders, but id do it for 3.
- kindlyrick

I believe if you've giving up multiple first rounders and not a good team you'd better get back an absolute star. Kessel is a decent player but how did that work out for Burke? To make things worse, that's only 2 firsts and a second. I wouldn't give up more than a prospect and a 1st rounder for subban. Just not worth the price.

If we're talking Weber or Suter, then I'm a lot more flexible, but I don't see Subban as that player. 38 points and pretty decent defensive play do not equal 3-4 first round draft picks on a team likely to be picking in the top 10 for at least 2-3 of those years, if not the top 5.

Or maybe offer Montreal- Reinhardt, Visnovski (providing that he would agree to come back to the NHL) and a #1 pick... maybe that would be enough...the Isles would have to offer Subban JT money...
- kear20

Forget Subban. ain't happening. like he's the cure to all this team's problems? why waste anything remotely near what you're suggesting? If Garth ever offered that much he'd be crucified(even more) on this blog.

Who's better than Gomez and Redden.......Funny how both guys were signed to those ridiculous contracts by the Rangers. Both guys are going to get all the money owed to them this year, and then on top of that whatever they sign for this year on a new team. Scott Gomez could make over 10 million dollars this year. Hahahahahaha thats crazy

from IPB:

The Islanders grabbed another defender off the waiver wire today in Thomas Hickey a day after they got Joe Finley. Finley is rather large defender whose attributes and shortcomings are fairly straightforward; he fights, hits people, stays at home and skating could use work. With Hickey, it’s a tad more complex. Hickey is a fourth overall pick who has spent the past four seasons in the AHL. So why did the Kings put him in a position to get plucked off the waiver wive and why didn’t he make the Kings? For answers to those questions, we turn to the people who know the Kings better than just about anyone, the Kings blog the Royal Half:

It was June 22nd, 2007 when myself and the 100 or so other fans at the LA Kings Draft Party turned to each other and said “Who the eff is Thomas Hickey?” When he was announced as the 4th Overall pick by the LA Kings even Pierre McGuire had a hard time knowing where this defenseman played his junior hockey. (Just kidding… kinda.)
Even thought Hickey was viewed as a long-term project by the Kings scouts it was a total “off the board” pick to be 4th Overall that year. Hickey did show some promise after his draft year playing for the Seattle Thunderbirds and even Captained the 2009 Canada WJC team that won Gold. Heading to the AHL in 2009, Hickey struggled through injuries during his 1st two seasons at Manchester but since then has been a regular Top 4 defenseman for them.

Thomas Hickey has been given the chance to make the big club out of the last two training camps. But in 2010 Jake Muzzin and Alec Martinez made the team instead and in 2011 Slava Voynov impressed the Kings enough to eventually trade Jack Johnson away. So Thomas Hickey has been one of those prospects that’s been on the cusp of making the big team but there has always been one or two better defensemen just ahead of him. He doesn’t have enough flash to make the Kings clear a spot for him but it’s been more important to play him regularly in the AHL than to be a healthy scratch. Is the kid a bust? For a 4th Overall pick in a Draft that the Kings could have selected Logan Couture, Karl Alzner, David Perron or even Sam Gagner instead… yeah, he’s a HUGE bust. But a lot of people still think he could be a decent NHL defenseman.

There was no way that Thomas Hickey was going to crack the LA Kings defense lineup over the next 3 seasons. Now… for an NY Islanders team that is relying on Mark Streit, Travis Hamonic and Andrew MacDonald… he might be a nice waiver pickup for them.

No single player is the cure.........theyre all spokes on a wheel, and subban would be a very nice addition to a young team looking for help on the backend.

i think they are being a bit harsh...for what there roles are, hamonic, streit (when healthy), nabokov and matt martin have done their job and could be added to that list.

but i agree with them for the most part...the kids have to step up. no question about it.

the funny thing is that aside from the Isles booking him a plane ticket and LV not showing up, everything that's been said back and forth has been as a result of an interviewer asking LV the questions. I haven't seen a statement from the Isles on the situation yet. I've seen the NHL and KHL comment on it, but not the Isles. I believe they're just waiting until saturday and if he hasn't shown up they'll suspend him and comment at that point, but it's smart on Snow's end. By not commenting, he's not burning any bridges. They need LV badly and if he shows up he plays. If he doesn't then Snow can comment.

I do not see them sitting him out or trading him. Sends the wrong message to anyone they trade for or pick off waivers. You do not trade someone who refuses to report or you will find that becomes a habit with anyone they try and add to the team.

You can quote roses and puppy dogs and other flowery crap about people who want to be there, but end result is that the team has a hole without him on defense (overall they have many) and if he shows up they need him to play. If they trade him for a draft pick then he gets out of Long Island and they get nothing that they need right now

I'd bring in Gomez and Redden on one year deals to finish out this season if it meant not rushing any of our top end prospects like Strome, Nino, Donovan, Reinhart, etc. Yes, Gomez and Redden are garbage, but Gomez is better than rushing Strome and ruining his development. Redden is probably better than any of the other candidates looking to be the 6th or 7th d-men this season.

Like someone already posted, Snow is a Waiver Wire Whore. He loves it. Gomez and Redden could be his best Whore-jobs since Moulson and Grabner!

Gotcha, to me it's obvious. As far as legitimate proof I've never heard of any? The Isles and DP would unialterally make sure that zero steroid rumors would leak out. It'd be right up there with watergate

Enough players have come & gone from this team for the TEAM to not be able to stop something like that from leaking out. Just sayin

Why so quick to throw in the towel on the season.........year 5 of the rebuild and you're already looking at year 6? At what point does this team draw a line in the sand and say..........we're gonna try and win and compete with the best?

When i was listening to the XM hockey station they were talkin about Burke and how they thought it was weird that he was fired 4 years in. They said everyone knows that it takes 5 years for a rebuild. Well we're in year 5 and to me the time should be now to start making playoff moves....
