Impossible..... Luongo's contract will not hinder the trade of Luongo. Everyone knows 34 year old broken down goalies with 10 years left are the peek of value. - burn
you gotta admit, Gillis is a perfect representation of the Canucks and their fans. Neither participate in a place we call reality........ |

Good strategy but it would cost at least one of Gardiner, Reiily or Kadri. I for one want to see what Kadri does post Brian Burke/Ron Wilson era, when he hopefully isn't be dumped on thru the media. Hoping that was a Burke strategy. - Domidives
O'Reilly will resign. It's a matter of time. COL has a ton of cap space, they're in no rush with Stastny and Duchene more than capable of centering the top two lines. |

I knew it....Burn is really Mike Gillis. HA!
Wait, was that just the most clever use of sarcasm ever?
I'll shut up now.
I thought you were Mike Gillis because all the crap he was spewing on Sunday night saying every single team would welcome Lu's contract with open arms.

Canucks fans love to talk about the playoffs and how pathetic the Leafs are but honestly, how long can you be satisfied with "great playoffs"? In the entire history of your team that's all you can claim, you've enjoyed some great playoffs. It's amazing to me, I hear Canucks fans talk about the last two Presidents trophies more than I hear LA and Boston fans talk about the last two Stanley Cups. - Jeffmt
That is because LA and Boston are cities whose fans have enjoyed major league championships.
Vancouver has never won a major league championship in anything. The city doesn't even rate getting a team in half the major professional leagues in NA.
They have to crow about *something* to make themselves relevant.

GardIner is going nowhere - Cherry--Skoal
I would package Gardiner in a trade for Benn in a heartbeat.
I would not go so far as Gardiner and a 1st, but I would do Gardiner/Kadri or Gardiner/Bozak.

Connololy needed to be enlightened as to what the Leafs expect from him this year. the guy who is getting paid 4.5 million a year needed that clarification....... *facepalm* |

I am feeling more and more comfortable keeping Lou to capitalize on what may be the last real season that the Sedins will be elite players. - Beatle_john
It is what I have been saying all along. The window is closing. The value is not out there in a trade. Keep him. I bet you are going to need him at some point before the windoiw shuts. As far as the locker room, my message would be "Sac up and make it work". So far it already seems like Luongo is not being problematic about it.
... then buy him out if the Canucks don't win the cup the next 2 seasons.
It is not like Gillis is being offered anything that would be particularly difficult to obtain.

And who's to say that Schneider doesn't get the yank in the playoffs this year? Or sooner? They're in no trouble cap-wise this year so unless there's a deal on the table that makes the team better right now, I don't see the point in VAN moving him. |

Stop dreaming Mike. We're not landing either of O'Reilly or Benn without giving up the farm for them...
They'll re-sign with their respective teams by Saturday. - Pen15
Just curious, would the Avalanche be willing to part with Stastny for a package that included an expiring contract? Possibly, Bozak, Connolly and Percy. This way, they get rid of a big contract while getting more cap space in the off-season?
On a side note, anyone know if the NHL will now allow for "sign-and-trade" deals like the NBA has in place? |

Conversely,
What if Schneider sh1ts the bed and proves he actually can't handle the pressure of being the #1 in a city like Vancouver. What if Luongo is not there.
Suddenly you are pinning the Sedins last couple years of stardom on the backs of sub-par goaltending.
I have never understood this idea of trading Luongo in the first place... unless you are getting MUCH more than what teams seem to be willing to pay. |

Very doubtful.
The Avs don't need cap space, they are at or near the league min iirc. But, they are a team that is losing money and in the middle of a rebuild. They last thing then need is overpaid guys with expiring contracts. If they are looking to trade Stastny (after they sign O'Rielly) then is going to be for picks or prospects, no salary dumps will be included. |

A good idea in theory but I'm thinking it would take a lot more to get O'Reilly or Benn than it would to get Luongo. - SteveTambellini

Ryan O'Reilly would be a good centre for Kessel. |
|
|
|
Maybe you are right about O'Reilly and maybe you aren't, even so he will still be a 2nd line center and a very solid two player. He could be had for less than Benn, but still more than Luongo. I also freaking love Jamie Benn. I love everything about his game. I'd give up a lot to get him, and that's what it would take. I don't see why they would ever trade him though, and I'll bet he signs something comparable to the Hall/Eberle contracts or slightly less before very long here.
Seriously though, I'd trade Yakupov+ for Benn. Sounds crazy, but I would. - SteveTambellini
And it would take Morgan Rielly. Are you willing now? Burke says he's better then Yakupov. |
|
|
|
I would trade Phil Kessel, even up, for Jamie Benn. We get the grit and toughness angle and Dallas gets the speed and finesse. Sounds like a fair deal for both clubs. The best part, is that we bury that awful deal with Boston. - PrinceLH
Problem is Dallas does not want the contract headache. Kessel makes $5.4 and after next season he will negociate for more. They are better off with Benn. |
