Which young guy has Burke traded who you would prefer him not to? Seguin/Hamilton don't count. Teams have to at least try to win.. Oh no don't add lupul we might win more games ERMAHGAWD!!!!
- Arctic_AARDVARK

Other than seguin/Hamilton I've been relatively happy with his moves... He has held onto young guys and brought more in.

Now stay the course.

Right .... The ducks core players were perry getzlaf and McDonald
Not neids pronger and Giggy or selanne for that matter

The bruins core players were KREJCI and Lucia

Not chara and Thomas

Good night dozzer

They were all the core. The point is that they drafted a young core, then added the rest onto it. Just because those teams added key pieces, it doesnt mean that they had nothing before them.

Who is left from that team? Getzlaf and perry and that's about it. All of which gone before Burke left.
- Dozzer

The only reason that team won was because Burke signed Neids and traded for Pronger

Seguin/Hamilton don't count, huh. How convenient. The godawful trade that is Burke's failed legacy 'doesn't count'. Blue and white disease rages on.

What you're arguing is entirely subjective. It would look better on you if you stopped debating like it was fact.

That wasn't the only reason, The other reason is because they played the Senators in the Stanley Cup.

It is, but if we notably need one down the line, we will acquire one. Your telling me you would not be fine with:

Gunner Phaneuf

Gardiner Rielly

Liles Franson

backed up with a decent goaltender(lets say a luongo or halak) some day if Rielly were to make the team eventually? If the leafs really needed another stay home defender it will be done down the line, it is not necessary now because reimer is not "the goalie" to save us unless he fully becomes the next Cujo of the leafs. If we got a goaltender, you would see the leafs change notably.

- Mapleleafs_91

Im fine with those guys but i would still rather see a volchenkov type player who commits to blocking shots and making hits. It would have been nice if Dion lived up to his hype, but i think its now safe to say he didn't. Calgary saw that, that's why they traded him

His main mistake there was not protecting the lottery pick.

So you are saying put a weaker defense in front of Reimer by not getting a stay at home defender and its because Reimer isn't the future goalie of the leafs?

Wouldn't it make more sense to get a stay at home defender and then figure out if Reimer is the goaltender or not seems stupid to put a weaker defense in front of him and not really give him a chance since just 18 months ago he was doing the job and was doing the job before he suffered a concussion.

The point I think you're missing or failing to address is that the Leafs dont have enough to subtract in order to add GOOD pieces. Thats why they need to stick with what they have until they do. Why suck with some mediocre vets (ala the Leafs of the past 10 years) when you can suck with young guys who can pan out to be good?

That way once you gather some good prospects, some of them will develop and some of them can be traded for QUALITY vets who help push them to contend.

I maintain that there is no trade out there right now for the Leafs that will make them contend in the next two years. (realistic trade that is)

You figure a GM with a wealth of experience like Burke would know this.

I agree and I wouldn't trade for vets, I would just build ala young guys, look at the Blues most of there team is young and was built inside and also some decent trades and signings. Thats the way the Leafs should build.

Honestly the way the eastern conference is with the Bruins, Rangers, Flyers, Penguins its going to take 5-10 years before the Leafs can actually compete deep into the playoffs.
