uhh, Colly is still injury prone....
Ive loved White ever since last season when he saved a goal by diving into the net and stopping a shot with his face. - wingz4life

If the Leafs don't manage to make the playoffs this year I'd be in the 'trade Kessel' camp.
He's not got a whole lot of reasons to resign after next year at the rate things are going - AngryWhiteMale
Agreed. Nonis should be like trying NOW to re-sign Kessel. If I'm Nonis, I give it till the off season. If Kessel is not signed by the time the seasons end, Nonis better shift his gear & start thinking about dealing him. If we come to the 2013/2014 trade deadline & Kessel is not signed than he must be dealt by than or we lose him for nothing. My preference is to re-sign Kessel but if He doesn't wanna re-sign here, Leafs must eventually deal him. This will be next season's big story: WILL THE LEAFS RE-SIGN OR TRADE KESSEL. |

With the cap coming down next season (by about $6m), the Nucks are going to have issues. Including Lu, the Nucks have 13 players on roster and less than $9m to fill the gaps. If they don't trade him, they have almost no option to buy him out. Patience may work wonders here. - lumlums
Ive been patient for the past 8 years. Get a goalie, get in the playoffs, let the young guys develop and attract some quality UFA's. If we tank and draft MacKinnon that's guaranteed to make us a crappy team for another 2 or 3 years. (frank) that. If the Leafs don't start taking "winning" serious then fans like me won't take them serious. |

A goalie, any goalie, is not going to move the 25th worst team in the league into a playoff position.
The Leafs haven't made any changes to improve in the off season....other teams in the East have.
Watch the young guys develop, keep an eye on the hot draft picks coming up and cheer against the Habs and Sens and enjoy the half season. |

It'd be a fawcking travesty if Kessel just walks after his deal's done.
I'd be looking at teams like CBJ who might be able to fetch us a decent return for Phil
I'd say Johanssen and Jenner+, or their first rounder this year+ if that pick ends up being the first overall.
Perhaps CHI would be interested in Swapping Sharp and Teravainen for Kessel+.
The reason I throw this out there is because it's not like Phil chose to come here, he simply took the first chance to get out of BOS, and probably isn't thrilled about the spotlight of TOR |

So follow the recipe that has gotten the leafs to the semi finals 4 times in the last 40 years and no further.
Nah, would rather miss the playoffs and build this team right for once.
it's the only method the leafs haven't tried. and the definition of insanity is doing things the same way over and over and expecting different results. |

I think you've forgotten the Cujo/Belfour years.
Believe me, it's the most important position in hockey, and can do wonders for a team |

The list of guys who shouldn't be moved is short. I'd add Nazem, Biggs, Gunnar, Franson, Frattin, Mckegg & Colborne to that list.
While I was on the fence about Joe Colborne for a while, I like that he's really bounced back from last year's injury and benefit from all that extra ice time recently - AngryWhiteMale
Keep Kessel unless you can't sign him by the start of next season. You can't let him go into next season without a new deal but at the same time it's unlikely that you'll get fair value in return so work your ass off to re-sign him. |

Cujo had the luxury of a far better team, sundin, Roberts, mogilny, tucker, etc.
Belfour won one playoff series for the leafs. Just one.

WOW u sound like Burke. Sure your not the real Burke? Your blue print is what Burke tried & it didn't work. Can't have it both ways. Either PLAN A: build with your current young players & keep developing young players. OR PLAN B: go for broke, trade the farm for Lu, Getzlaf, Perry & the next best UFA d man available mext summer who ever that may be. The Leafs will than have a 2-3 year window of making the playoffs before spending the next 10 years in mediocrity. Don't know about u, but I'll take plan A. Leafs have been trying plan B for 45 years & it just never works. |

They just can't strip the cupboards for one. I agree with Dozzer that now is not the time to do it. This "season" should be a write off in terms of making any major moves, let it play out and take a good hard run at free agents and if you land them, swing some picks, parts and prospects for a goalie. |

Lots of teams have won without building through the draft. Leafs have sucked for too long now. Do whatever it takes to win. An elite goalie is a good start. Add a top line center this summer (Getzlaf), add some grit, the young guys will develop, and Walaa!! A good hokey team!! Enough of this building through the draft. Rielly is the only decent prospect from the draft. The rest are unknown. |

Name one team who won the cup during the last CBA whose core wasn't developed by themselves.
Bet ya can't. |

Yes if Nonis can't re-sign him, Nonis will have to trade him. This will be the big story next season amongst Leaf fans.

Mogilny, Roberts and Sundin were at the tail end of their careers.
And Eddie didn't win us a series, he stole it. That 7 games vs. Ottawa will go down as one of the finest playoff goaltending performances I have ever seen |

Someone needs to be pissed off here... Leafs fans have been pawns. They spend poop loads of money on their team and support them though all the terrible years and get nothing in return. We have taken on this culture of losing and its now acceptable to lose all the time. Same arguements, "oh lets just tank mannnn, leafs will totally draft a Crosby or something and everything will be so (frank)ing euphoric in leafland." Get a clue you (frank)ing sheep. |

Good for him. So?
And that accomplished what exactly?
And the tail end of their careers? You mean mid thirties? How old is luongo again?
And I dare you to compare the player stats from that team to this one. Guarantee you on a player to player basis that team from the early 2000s was far better. |
