They both might be at this point. Here's our lineup without Booth and Kesler:

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Raymond - ??? - ???(2 of Schroeder, Ebbet, Kassian)
Higgins - Lapierre- Hansen(probably our new "2nd line")
Volpatti - Malhotra - Weise

That's horrible after the first line.

- Nucker101

Maybe Ebbett will do alright in the shortened season, I think he had a great 48 game stretch a few seasons back, you just have to weather the storm till Kesler and Booth return.

Luongo is not staying in Vancouver. He will be traded either in the next few days or after he lets in his first weak goal and the crowd gets on him. The sooner they trade him the better for both sides. The leafs have always played much better with a good goalie. I think it goes a long way to boost their confidence. I just think its asinine to try to develop young players when there is no good goaltending to bail them out when they make a mistake. No team has confidence in themselves if they don't have trust in the guy between the pipes. The longer the leafs wait the more they are shooting themselves in the foot.

I just can't stomach what we'd hypothetically be giving up to get him.

And don't get me wrong, I understand fully how this team is going nowhere until we get good goaltending. But the fact is that Gunnarsson is the kind of solid Dman we wouldn't notice until he's gone. He's a stabilizing influence on Dion, who's basically a neaderthal out there. Kadri would be a shame because I could see him competing with Schultz for the Calder simply based on the fact that he'd get some playing time with the Sedins and would bank.

We've been so patient with Nazem and to see him go after giving him proper time in the AHL would be a huge mistake. I don't mind seeing Bozak go, but it'd need to be a different package than what is rumored. Why are we taking a 10 year deal back and not dumping a single salary on VAN?

Comparing him to John Mitchell as in a player hyped up by Leaf fans like yourself, only to realize he sucks. Pretty comparable stats if you ask me. It's probably safe to say you were one of the fans that thought Stralman was the second coming of Lidstrom, Pogge was the next Brodeur, Earl was the next Iginla, Mitchell was the next Dougie Gilmour, Kondratiev was the next Visnovsky. Come on man, Frattin is a 3rd liner at best, call it like it is, an easily replaceable player, a feel good story. He has Tim Brent and Joey Crabb type player written all over him. Easy to find.

Like who??? No one ever..... ever hyped Mitchell.

Ebbett isn't bad when he's playing with players that can create their own offense and scoring chances but I don't see it happening with the likes of Kassian, Schroeder and Raymond.

Anyone else want Toronto to take advantage of the new Redden/Gomez buyout rule that was just announced to get rid of Connolly or Lombardi or Komisarek and finally give one of the kids a legitimate shot?
- vermie22

No b/c the cap hit still sticks ...might as well keep them. Just call it the Redden/Gomez exception ...it'll only be useful for guys making 3+ milly who have multiple years left on their deals and their teams have absolutely no use left for them. Komi's close ....but I think the Leafs - unfortunately - need him for these 48 games.

Edit: The trade and buy out situation (if legal) would be interesting though.

Eg. If Montreal couldn't absorb Gomez' cap hit this year .....trade him with a pick/prospect to a team that could. I'm guessing the league covered that though.
