probably need to add a first for Benn or maybe Lombardi
- bobbyisno1

Nice avatar. Your telling me Gardiner, a 1st & Colborne? That's the Kessel deal all over again. Don't forget, Leafs got a great scorer in Kessel, not taking anything away from him. They just could have made a smarter trade to get Kessel. Benn like Kessel is great but Nonis would have to make a smarter deal than Burke made for Kessel.

The orginal Kessel trade at the June 09 draft was Kaberle & a 1st pick (7th) which turned out to be Kadri. But Burke stupidly turned that down. That would have been a smart trade for Kessel.

He's 27 years old, of course he's going to play better against younger guys in the AHL.
Let me guess, Keith Aucoin is a stud offensive player finally ready to shine just for the Maple Leafs and no one else years before.

First of all, Frattin has had exactly ONE full year in pro hockey. That's all, just one. And played quite well in that single year. Slightly different than Kostka and Aucoin, don't you think? Second, Aucoin is undersized, and that's pretty much his biggest knock. Frattin is not.

I think it's quite obvious you just have no ability to look at a player and judge whether he's fit for the NHL or not. Comparing him to Aucoin is simply stupid. John Mitchell, still stupid, just a little less so. It might also be worthwhile noting that Mitchell contributed for nearly the entire season to one of the best teams in the league.

I thought it was Kaberle and the 7th pick for Kessel and the Bruins pick?

Anyone else want Toronto to take advantage of the new Redden/Gomez buyout rule that was just announced to get rid of Connolly or Lombardi or Komisarek and finally give one of the kids a legitimate shot?

No what happened was that it was a misunderstanding between Chiarelli & Burke. Burke understood the deal as Kaberle for Kessel & the B's 1st pick, while Chiarelli believed the deal was Kaberle & the Leafs 1st for Kessel. Neither woukd budge so the deal fell through.

Yeah yeah. I saw your 2nd post right after i posted mine. If we were ever to see a trade between Dallas and Toronto for Benn, it's almost guaranteed that Gardiner is going the other way. Gardiner + + + + . We finished 10th in scoring last year. Offence is the least of our worries right now.

I was thinking more along the lines, that if either Connolly/Lombardi was gone now instead of this summer, it would give Kadri a spot on the roster. We can finally give a chance to sink or swim in a 48 game audition.

Or if Komi is gone, then Kostka/Holzer and maybe Reilly get a shot.

I want to see that fat (frank) komisarek play for the Leafs now that he isn't a fat (frank) anymore. Whoever told him that it was ok to be 250lbs at 6'4 should be shot in the face.

I get what you are saying I just whole-heartedly disagree with you. Once you said Frattin=Mitchell and that we need to get Luongo at the expense of youth, I just stopped trying because well.... that's self explanatory.

Saying that Frattin is damn good third-liner who does a lot of things well to you became the epitome of blasphemous over-hyping.

In your mind what I said was Frattin being an excellent 3rd liner = Stralman being as good as Lidstrom.

Good work.

- markmark

To add to this, saying he will never score 20 goals, when he scored 8 in 13 minutes of ice over 56 games with very little PP time as a 24 year old rookie, is pretty silly too. Judging by his rookie season, and seeing how the kid can play, there is absolutely no way anyone can rule out a 20 goal season.

I have no proof aside from the locker room interviews, but it seems that almost the whole team has slimmed down (except maybe Kessel). With Komi losing that weight, I don't see him being very effective as a physical Dman, which is what we need.

I can see that, but he wasn't 243lbs when he was blocking 190 shots and dishing out 200 hits. He was more 230lbs. Maybe the weight gain was when he quit doing the coke?

I know some of you would enjoy knowing the real reason Brian Burke was canned, forwarded to me from my brothers within the Press community:

Contrary to popular belief, the reason for Burke's firing was not his willingness to pull off the Roberto Luongo trade.

Brian Burke outside of hockey is somewhat of a Hound, akin to that of a white Tiger Woods. Burke has been through two marriages, the latest of which is now on the rocks. Combine this with the greatest of personal tragedies as his son announced he was Gay, only to be killed in a car accident shortly thereafter. So therapeutically, Burke is now enjoying to the fullest extent what little time he has left by hopping into the sack with as many wayward Ditchpigs as possible.

Rogers Sportsnet's Hazel Mae certainly plays the field as well. Her marriage to minor league baseball player Kevin Barker is widely regarded as a sham. Her career took her to Boston where she was the Anchor Hog for The New England Sports Network and the Major League Baseball Network. While there, she took the time to grease the poles of many of the Boston Red Sox players.

Upon returning to Toronto in November 2011, she anchored Sportsnet Connected from behind her familiar glass desk. She also worked well under the desk in her spare time, servicing several Toronto pro athletes.

Well it didn't take long for Brain Burke and Hazel Mae to hook up. In the summer of 2012, Sportsnet removed her from the glass desk because she wouldn't fit, insisting that she stand while on air. The reason she wouldn't fit is that she was pregnant. She became so dishevelled looking as the summer wore on that Sportsnet sent her home while they decided how to handle the impending scandal.

Scandal, you say? Well yessirr......The father could have been any number of worthy candidates, but the lucky dad is, in fact, our very own Brian Burke.

So splashdown was back in December. Hazel and Burkie have been at odds as to if, how and when to release the news. Sportsnet still doesn't know what to do with her. On the other hand, new owners of the Toronto Maple Leafs in Bell Canada have little, if any, tolerance for egotistical. belligerent, sex-addicted senior executives and decided to eliminate the problem by gassing Burke.

When you think about it, this makes perfect sense. It had nothing to do with any aspect of running the hockey team, by virtue of the fact that Dave Nonis and all remaining hockey management are Burke disciples. They will take the club in the same direction as before. All the Maple Leaf press conferences dance around the issue of Burke's dismissal, because they can't tell you the real reason that you now know.
