That package wouldn't get the deal done, and even if it did, Pittsburgh wouldn't be able to keep Benn because their payroll is so high. That and the fact that it simply wouldn't be fair.

That's basically 3 first round picks for Benn...Despres looks NHL ready, Bennett is on the cusp, so likely non-busts...and one pick where Dallas can do what they desire...

Any trade involving Benn would have to have Sutter going back. Didnt they let Staal go because of money? How could they afford Benn?

No. They offered Staal the same deal he signed in CAR. He wanted to leave as he wanted to be a top 2C, never gonna happen in PITT.

Hence a sweetener. Bozak? Franson? Maybe even a Kadri. That's where the younger assets can be dealt, to get younger assets back. Dallas has more holes to fill and we can help them do it, for a price.

The value of Franson and Kadri is questionable. Bozak would have decent value in a 1-for-1 trade, but that value is cut sharply when he is being added as a "sweetener". Let's just say that Kessel and Bozak for Benn is what would be considered "fair value". Dallas still has no motivation to make that trade because they are losing the best and most desirable player in the deal. Most of the time with trades like that, it takes an overpayment. Even if the Stars did get into a situation where the absolutely had to deal Jamie Benn, I can pretty much guarantee they would get something at least a little bit better than Kessel and Bozak.

They're on the Calgary tangent. They've had their chance and each year, they do even less. They'll get in. Maybe win one round, but that'll be it. I can't see them building a young, exciting team, from what they have in their system. It's allot like the cupboard, when the Quinn era in Toronto ended. A few mediocre players and allot of never will be's. That's the future of Vancouver. Fear not, you won't have to worry about reaching the cap floor for 10 years. Loungo will keep you above that floor with his contract.
