Burke was classic in saying great things about about a player after acquired... Versteeg, Schenn and Auliem then flipping them within months of praising them.

Unfortunately Bell and Rogers won't come out and say they want to be meddling owners, if that's what you're looking for. The timing alone reeks of meddling, because if it was performance-based, he should have been canned at the end of last season, not held for another entire off-season, all to be shown the door 9 days from puck drop.

They didn't own the team at the end of the season. They didn't take over the whole thing until two weeks prior to the lockout. And at that point, Burke had value to them as a lawyer and as a CBA negotiator.
