cappy is quoted as saying something along the lines of, if strome is staying with the team he will be playing top 6 minutes.
- LetsGoIsles

After about 12-15 games...Weight will be the new coach and to help Weight Snow will briing up 3-5 guys from Bridgeport (ie. Nino, Donovan, etc.).

if this team is under 500 after 15 games I bet Cappy gets fired. If they're over 500 after 30 games he gets an extension.

I dislike having him as coach and think of him as a muppet, but this is what I bet will happen. Maybe he'll become another assistant to garth snow.

Oh boy that should be great. I dont know I think the Islanders need to clean house management wise. All coaches gone Gm gone and start a new. Lets see what happens when tehy go to Brooklyn as I am anticipating this to come true

"I think consistency had a big part in that," coach Jack Capuano told NHL.com over the summer regarding the team's shortcomings. "I thought that times throughout the year, our battle level was high and our will to compete was high, but special teams went through a little bit of a funk. We just didn't generate the offense like we did in the second half of the year.

Ah, Cappy, your team was actually 8th on the PP for the year. Granted, 23rd on the PK, so maybe he's referring to that. But overall, they were last in team plus/minus, 26th in 5-on-5 goals for, and 28th in 5-on-5 goals against. I think the problems extend well beyond "a little bit of a funk" in special teams.

Exactly UIF. Lack of size and Defense played a huge part in the problems. Isles need much more than a fix to the special teams.

Strome is not making this team. that's why they're skating him on the fourth line. They're going to keep him around for camp then send him back to Jr. No way they bury Strome on the fourth line after going through the Nino nonsense last year. This team won't have a legit #2 center until next September. Bank on it.

this is why my excitement level for the season is deteriorating. Don't get me wrong, I cannot F'n wait for Islanders hockey, but my hopes for a successful season are dimishing as I see the "same ole" happening. I truly thought they'd at least give Strome the 5 game look, get Frans on the 3rd line, and see if the lines were naturally better balanced. After hearing Strome is practicing on the 4th line, all that went out the window.

I just hate to think the team is just writing off the season. I'm fine not moving guys like Strome and Nino in a deal but to pretty much make no moves really bothers me.

isnt it amazing how everyone gets pissed at garth for making such an insignificant move and how useless this guy is going to be and THAN goes crazy that we might lose him...

I was thinking the same exact thing.. damned if he does, damned if he dont.

Surprised everyone is upset with waiver pick up of Finley. Watched him play a bunch and is a mean SOB who is a team player. Like this pick up better than Martinek who will be injured about the third game in. Islanders got ripped apart for picking up Cairns on waivers from the Rangers back in the day and he filled the role they needed, so don't be so quick to slam the kid. Carkner and Finely give the Islanders huge size and snarl on the blue line. Something they have been lacking

Art Staple has some tweets that suggest otherwise...scroll down..

I scrolled through (quickly, i admit) and I didn't see anything suggesting that Strome is making the team (not that its not there, I just didn't see it). Again, I can't see a scenario whereby Strome is put on the team to play top six minutes for 48 games during a lost year, and the Isles burn a year of his contract for a season in which they're going nowhere fast. If they were skating him in camp on one of the top two lines, I'd expect to see him during the season. The fact that he's buried on the fourth line indicates to me that he is up for the experience and the team will be sending him back to Jr.

Not everybody is upset with it... just the guys that want to complain for no reason.

I tried reading through this blog... some guys just don't get it.

Not sure what they want... the season hasn't even started, and the new CBA was just signed 2 days ago.

Garth hasn't done anything this year yet...

It's been 48 hours.

They add a big tough defenceman for depth in Bridgeport... they hate the move. They have no idea who he is.

Crazy people on this blog....

Kinda true....but on the day that your big defensemen that everyone was looking forward to getting doesn't show, and they sign a former 1st rounder that 2 teams gave up on, well, it's disheartening. I was hoping with the new arena deal, things would be a little different. I'm just really starting to think this is a throwaway season and the summer will bring us another nice pick and hopfully a couple of good FA signings/aquisitions. Does Finely fufill a need...maybe? Will he be a PP quarterback....nope. He could probably knock the hell outta some people...and that's always welcome...but I though we got Carkner to do that.

agreed. still time to get something done, but I think because he hasn't made any real trades since Smyth that people get antsy. We're sitting a little better with Martinek signed and now Finley for depth. I would rather see Donovan but if Carkner/Finley keep our smaller forwards from being pushed around and can clear the front of the net we're slightly better off.

Fistric from Dallas would have been a much bigger improvement, but we still have the rest of the week until the season starts and in the offseason we should see some opportunities to add a player or two from teams shedding salary to get under the cap next year.

I would like to see something bigger and something to give the team a kick start, but after so many years of Milbury (and so many years after watching those players play elsewhere) I'm able to be more patient. Depth was needed on defense, some depth was added. Plenty of room for improvement, so we shall see what else may or may not get done.

I totally agree with this.........not to mention Finley can skate. No problem with this signing whatsoever. I think most people on here who understand the game don't have a problem with it either. People are just tired of the isles always going the cheap route. The olddddddddd waiver wire. Garth lovessssss a bargain!!

Have you seen the Isles D? My guess is he is staying up with the big club until he proves he can't. I don't know much about Finley other then his fight with Martin last year
