Totally, we have been doing just fine without a top 5-10 goalie the past few years.

Everybody preaches bad contract yet if they paying our backup (which Luongo can mentor, another thing people don't grasp) up to 2 mill a season we are still paying less or equal to a majority of the league. It's a slam dunk.

Stop right there.

First of all, Luongo wasn't a top 5 goalie last year. His numbers were actually pretty disappointing for a guy who had a 1st place team in front of him. Let's also try to remember there's a big reason why the Canucks are getting rid of him. He's 34 and his playoff performances are usually disappointing.

Second of all, nobody and I mean nobody becomes a mentor when they have 10 years left on a deal. The notion that Luongo becomes a mentor is even more ridiculous than Giguere would be a mentor.

Toronto should do that deal in a second, b/c Kadri is another overrated leafs prospect (overrated in many ways because he is a leafs prospect) and the other two are nothing any team can't acquire with moderate effort. if that is really the proposal from Gillis, Nonis should jump at it...it's a pittance for a proven #1 who will raise the prospects of mediocre team.
