The Q sucks.
You get a few good guys that rise above the scum, but it's a crappy, crappy league. Makes poopty players look amazing. - Feeling Glucky?
The Q did suck for many years. These past 3 they've really turned it around providing better prospects. This is their strongest year depth wise of draft eligibles while the weakest in years for the OHL. But nah, (frank) em. |

They'll do great in the ECHL/Europe. Some might even make the A!

I see him as a smart. tough kid from Alberta, with a big heart and he will knock in 10 to 12 goals this short season. I think he is a 3rd liner player that all teams want. The Leafs just have 20 of these 3rd liner style players. We need to get rid of a buch of them for one 2nd line guy and a first line center. |

JVR won't disappoint me. It's possible he does well, but at the end of the day you can't teach heart.
Bad trade IMO. - Feeling Glucky?

Most of the league doesn't have heart...doesn't matter...at least he has talent.
Will he put it to good use? We'll see....for leaf fans, we hope he does.
And "heart" is a mindset, mindsets can be learned. - Fakepartofme
So can talent |

My theory, pick all centres in this draft and pray for a homerun, ;lol. - LeafMan
My theory: never draft a Canadian winger.
Canadian hockey always pushes the best kids to centre.
Draft only centres. You can always convert him to a winger later. Just tell him not to skate back as fast, and don't bother covering one side of the rink.
It seems to be the Flyers' philosophy. And they do OK in drafting.
Other than goalies, of course. |

My personal belief?
A guy like Schenn will be more useful in a cup win than JVR.
Someone who will sacrifice the body, punish the opposition and play strong shut-down hockey is always going to be more useful in the playoffs than a perimeter winger who's afraid to use his size. |

I miss Schenn. Of course it could be that the value of my two framed signed photos and signed jersey has dropped significantly but that's another discussion entirely (note: I got one signed photo at the draft and framed it and got the other two things as gifts...so I didn't spend any of my own money on them. Just saying.) |

Definitely agree with this philosophy. You can never have too many centers. I'd rather have eight centers and four natural wingers than the other way around. |

It's time for the Q to start doing what it has always done best; produce some damn goalies! |

What makes Albertan's "tough kids"? because the odd one grows up on a grain farm? Here's the truth about Albertan's and the people will tell you themselves. The guys who work in the oil patch are tough, no doubt about it. But the men are never home. Therefor the kids now grow up without their dads around much. And mom is always a stay at home who smokes alot of pot and plays Xbox all day. There is a whole generation of kids here who are LAZY and contribute NOTHING. Toughest Canadians are always from Manitoba or Ontario. |

SPORTSNET.CA: Dan Murphy believes the Toronto Maple Leafs have other goalie options to pursue besides Roberto Luongo, listing Jaroslav Halak of the St. Louis Blue and Jonathan Bernier of the LA Kings as possibilities if GM Dave Nonis believes he needs to upgrade his goaltending. - jbold
Was saying the same thing last year re: Halak. 1a/b tandems are nice on paper, but they rarely work out long-term (especially if both goalies feel they're #1 calibre).
I was thinking MacArthur, Reimer, and Percy. |

Generalize much?
There are tough kids everywhere.
What makes Alberta kids tough is the league they play in; same reason why the NHL is rougher than the SEL, KHL, etc. It's a culture that has been fostered in the league for generations of players, coaches, owners, and referees. |

Watch him have the come-back year this year after we trade him; the comeback year he should've had last year. |

Sounds like Carlyle and Connolly have had some heart to heart meetings. Player wants to do more. Coach suggests he'll play in top nine Fs.
