Other teams will feel Scott's presence that's for sure even if he isn't fighting they know he is there.

I felt like Gerbe next to him and I am not that small a guy.

Speaking of Gerbe I think it's a make or break year for him too or else there just isn't room for him here, I love the guy and his spunk but he needs to bring more offense.

I'm with ya.

I think we all love 'Babyfood' but he has to start producing a bit more for certain.

What I cannot figure out is why all these so called hockey experts are so bent out of shape about John Scott signing.

- will play probably 20-30 games
- get 4th line minutes at best
- being paid a whoping $600,00 ( less than 1/100 of salary cap )
Not like he is taking a roster spot that could be used by picking up a 1st line center, wow he serves a purpose . Maybe because of him a few more of our players grows some balls. It ain't going to cost us a shot at the cup having him around !!!

I have to assume youre joking. If youre not this is more ridiculous than most of Garths handy work.

Not much of a fighter? Have you heard of youtube? Hockeyfights has him as something like 30-0 in his NHL career in fights.

He is the undisputed heavy weight champ right now.

- Homer

Looch or Chara would kill any of those guys that Scott fought. When Steve Macintyre was in Edmonton he tried all game to get Scott to go and Scott would have none of it. Again, 20-0 doesnt mean much if youre fighting puppies. The only legit guy he seems to have beaten is Parros.

You guys are giving far too much credit to a pylon. He barely beat Stortini when he fought him lol(which the apparently infallible resource hockeyfights.com confirms) and Huggy Bear is a terrible fighter. Just watch. If Looch or Chara or even Thornton decide hes worth their time (which they likely wont) it'll be a draw at best. If not, he'll just draw an instigator and cause a PK situation, which is why hes moved around so much in his career. Hes a dying breed, and this is likely his last NHL team. If hes silly enough to drop them with Chara, it will be sooner.

People that doubt NHL fighters should be forced into a cage match with said Hockey fighter, I think that is only fair.

I mean, I'm not going to say I'm excited to have him here. But I think the sheer thought of him dressing for a game will help keep some of the teams more honest.
- HonkFortheGoose

Why? All other teams do with these big goons is use thrm to draw penalties. Thats why the John Scotts of the world are almost non-existent in the modern NHL. Even in limited role, they are a negative and alll they do is eat up a roster spot.

I feel sometimes people simply fail to see the BIG picture is all.

John Scott was a need for this team no matter what anyone here on hockeybuzz thinks.

That's not true.

Maybe you have been watching too much of the passive style game that Edmonton plays these days. They're not exactly oozing toughness.

We have an owner with deep pockets. They don't like what he's doing here, or feel he's not necessary, they send him to Rochester or he becomes a healthy scratch. The coaching staff here is smart enough to know if/when they need to do something like that.

Getting him was a statement that what happened to Miller last year is not going to happen to them again this year.

It's not even like your team signed him so why exactly are your panties all in a bunch about this?

He was needed to help change the dynamic of the makeup of the team. I don't know that he'll be here for very long, but it's to shake up the mentality of the other teams in regards to what type of team Buffalo is. They needed sandpaper and they brought in a bunch of it.

You watch his fight with George Parros if you want to call it that?

Lays good ol Georgie out with 1 punch.

Yea , he may only be here for the short term but make no mistake this team got shoved around a bunch last year because it lacked players Scotts ilk .

I just dont see that happening anymore.

I'm just surprised ppl really care one way or the other...
Personally, I don't feel he'll have much of an impact bc he won't see much action...
However,
With all the division games we play this shortened season,
U can bet that he'll be in the line-up if there's another "miller/lucic" situation

I don't know if he'll "deter" anything initially,
Bc chances are he won't be in the line-up when it happens
But I could def see a revenge beating or two happening

Either way, at .6m, who cares?
We'll just have to see what happens

IMO, it's guys like Ott & Foligno & Kaleta that are in the line-up every night that'll make more of a difference

To what do we owe a visit from an Edmonton troll bad talking our goon . Not enough to talk about in Edmonton forums with your bevy of first overall picks . Let the Buffalo fans worry about whether John Scott was a good signing or not . You should go discuss your budding superstars and the owner that has ton of money trying to fleece the good people of Edmonton and the province of Alberta . We would not know about that. As we don't finish last every year and our owner actually invests more money in the area and is not looking to rob us.

I don't really care about John Scott. The guy I can't wait to watch is Steve Ott. He's gonna drive the opposition batty.

that Ott-Grigs-Leino line would be worth watching. That could be a very effective 3rd line.

Your ignorance amuses me.

Just pointing out to you guys that Scott wont make a difference. Weve been through it in Edmonton with goons that cant skate. Another poster said that players like Kaleta and Ott etc. are the real difference makers these days. He was correct.

Ott's gonna help open up some space for whoever he plays with. It could be a very good idea to have him with Leino. Leino likes playing with Kaleta, so hopefully he feels the same way about Ott.

I'm also excited to see if Foligno-Ennis-Stafford will have the same chemistry as last year.

Lindy has already pretty much said Scott will be in the lineup for such games.

Leino excel'd in Philly playing with Grittier guys who opened the ice for him.
