35-40, with a 2.95 GAA and a .902 save % career, while coming off back surgery doesn't make him a solid backup imo. But it really isn't a huge deal, just puzzling to me.

Both Boucher and Leighton have proven they can play in the NHL, and even start and play well for periods of time. Which is what you want in a backup. Before trading for Boucher, if Bryzgalov or Leighton were to get injured, who would the backup be for the Flyers?

TSNBobMcKenzie: Looks like Scott Gomez is getting Wade Redden Treatment in MTL. Stay home, get paid, count against cap and compliance buyout in summer.

For all that have been asking, I've been told Boosh is insurance for the #Flyers and likely will be reassigned to the #ADKPhantoms.

I think that Boucher was a throw in, and the primary target of the trade was Mark Alt. Carolina has been rumored to be looking to trade Boosh since the emergence of Justin Peters

you would think so, seems like a nice prospect. only negative i could find in very minimal research was that it seems like his offensive game has fallen off (completely) this year. who knows what kind of situation he's in up there though

Well, this makes more sense to me. I like Bouc, but let him play on the farm and let's go with the original plan here.

You know hockey is back when Hockeybuzz servers start crashing regularly.

As for Boucher, i'd much rather him then leighton as back up.

I can't stand Leighton. I actually hate him as a hockey player. I think he's a complete joke of a goalie. As a person i don't mind him collecting a paycheck with the Flyers.

This makes a lot of sense. Make room for the young guy who is also cheaper. The org kinda did Bouch a favour here, TP is sayin he bought a house in the area etc..

Also, OT I love that the Habs are just sending Gomez home and eating the 7 mil cap hit hahaha

Well, to be fair, Pither's offensive game never left CHL

I don't know why people are always so down on Leighton. Without him, we don't go to the Finals in 2010. Even though he's had injuries the last couple years, he's a capable backup who seems to be in good shape. You'd rather have Boucher who had offseason hip surgery than Leighton who IMO can easily handle 5-10 games max backing up Bryz?

He is not a capable backup for a cup contending team.

Period end of story. I can't deny Leighton played well getting us to the cup. But he also showed how bad he was during those cup finals. The guy is a fringe back up goalie. Always has been.

Besides we didn't win the cup. Boucher got us into the playoffs that year, and if he didn't get injured probably would have done a much better job.

I understand Leighton's been beat like a dead horse here. No need to get into it all over again.

But the guy has played 104 games in the NHL in 10 years. With 35 wins. 19 with the flyers over the course of 3 seperate seasons.

He is absolutely a capable backup for a contending team. Backup means non starter.
