Is it correct that we can't buy out Pronger as an injured player?
- FlyersFirst

Yes, per Bill Daly, any player that is injured can not be bought out

Has anyone figured out if we trade a player w/ a 1m cap hit and salary and are willing to pay 1/2 or 500k it's pretty easy math but how do we trade a player w/ a 6m cap hit with a 2m salary or a 2m cap hit w/ a 6m salary...is it prorata or dollar for dollar....that might be a way we can get a high priced defense man.....the team picks up 1/2 salary and cap hit...and we can always buy out if a bust.
- huks99

Yeah, but the more salary they pick up the better the prospect we're giving up.

@Eklund: Literally just fell asleep holding my iPad above me in bed...and dropped the tablet on my face! Yowch! #anditsnotthefirsttime.

2 years (well, a year and a half) for Foster, huh? Yikes. Anybody know if the Flyers actually gave him a workout?

Some interesting tidbits from new CBA

1. Tagging space: Temas will get to exceed current season's cap by 10% from March 1st on in terms of tagging space. Tagging space is basically in place to keep teams from spending over the current year's cap in cap commitments for the next season. This should help facilitate deadline trades.

- Jsaquella

That actually makes a lot of sense, since the summer cap allowance is 10%.

7. UFAs will get a week to talk to other teams before free agency starts on July 1st. This will likely end the trading for "rights"
- Jsaquella

It may also increase the amount of trades at the deadline.

One would *think* considering the length of the contract. Good signing.

No, they didn't. He was playing in Finland during the LO, and LO prohibited teams from working out players.

Anthony SanFillippo reports the Foster deal is one year, $950K

All hail Ant.

My objection isn't Foster himself. From all accounts he's a good guy and works his ass off...but they have a glut of big, slower defensemen.

Anybody think Laughton might crack the team in a 4th line center role?
- LordStanley88

Nope but will join the team after he is done in the ohl

I was hoping it wasn't a two year deal.

Interesting: Each NHL club will be required (upon league request) to participate in at least one international trip during term of CBA.

Expect a Flyers trip to Sweden at some point in the future

Not really. Meszaros isn't ready to go, but they needed more bodies anyhow, with Gustafsson & MAB out.

hopefully that's all it is. but if that were the case it would seem to make more sense just to wait for meszaros and goose to be back. why sign someone else? just afraid to ride it out because of the shortened season? maybe... hopefully

with foster seemingly as a guy that will get PP time, makes me feel uneasy about meszaros. hope i'm looking too far into it

I think even with Meszaros in the lineup, the Flyers feel they need help on the PP and for offensive support from the blueline. They're hoping Foster can provide that. I'm hoping he's more then just a PP specialist. We'll see.

Good time for a tryout. A lot of vets will be behind the 8 ball conditioning wise. Wouldn't surprise me if he looks good

that's possible... i guess i just didn't see them going this route for that. if it works out it could make a possible deadline deal for a gonchar, kaberle type player unnecessary, which obviously is good. just that saying foster is that player seems like a tough sell

I'm with you on it being a tough sell. I'm not at all enthused about the signing. But I'm going to keep an open mind and see how he plays. I wanted them to remain patient and bank the Cap space. However others have made good points that there could be some early injuries, and with Bourdon and Gustafsson currently out. The Flyers lack NHL depth at defense.
