I'm happy this is Shelley's last year.

No more having to worry about if his salary counts against the cap, and when it does and doesn't.

Anyone have a link to the upcoming UFA players for this summer? We could have a lot of cap space if we wanted it.

Other stuff:

1, Suspensions can be appealed to commissioner, suspension over 6 games can be appealed to an independent arbitrator

2. Much more stringent attention to PED testing and far more scrutiny to prescription drugs. Teams will have to designate somebody to monitor all player precriptions

3. Players can report poor ice conditions thru a NHL maintained app that will help keep good ice surfaces at all NHL arenas

4 ENtry draft-all non playoff teams will be involved in a weighted lottery and all have a shot at picking number one. previously teams could neither rise, or fall, more than 4 slots.

So a team that wins the cup can get the 1st pick? That's stupid. The NBA system is nice, but you could change the weighting for non playoff teams. No playoff team should pick before any non playoff team.

5. Waivers is now 24 hours, regardless of what day. Previously, players waived on Saturday would be on for 48.

No, all non-playoff teams are in a weighted lottery with the opportunity to end up with the number 1 pick. The only way a playoff team is in the lottery is if they traded for a non playoff team's pick.

That said, I think that there should be a weighted lottery for all teams, regardless of finish. There's a salary cap in place, why reward mediocrity?

Ok that makes more sense. I believe the playoff revenue earned by playoff teams out weighs a better percentage in the draft. I wonder what the ruling would be if a team traded some of its lottery chances to another team?

I like the Alt pickup. Need some D depth in the org.
Foster for 1 year is ok.

They can't trade chances, just picks.

So say the Flyers trade their first rounder to Montreal, and the Flyers fail to make the playoffs. The Habs then get into the draft lottery in place of the Flyers. If they end up with, say the fifth pick, the Habs get the 5th overall pick and the Flyers would get the 5th pick in each subsequent round(or whomever held the Flyers pick in those rounds).

I'd prefer a full on lottery, and reverse the order in each subsequent round, like a snake draft. So the team picking first in round one picks last in round two.

I just confirmed with Bill on Twitter that the Flyers own Alt's rights until summer of 2014

The Flyers will have about 6.8M in Cap space this Summer, barring any changes made to the current situation.

I'd try like Hell to re-sign him at a lower cap hit...say 2 years, at $3.5mm-4mm per

That'd be awesome. If he feels like he's got a season or two left, I don't doubt he'd bite.

There's no better UFA on the market next summer, except Edler, who will end up making some coin

Really? I had read it was hip somewhere. My bad.

Also, it's quite interesting that if Gervais is in, we will now have 3 right handed d men.. can't remember the last time that was the case.

The way he\'s run himself into the ground year in and year out, it wouldn\'t shock me.
