Burke knows phuck all...4 straight years without a playoff game...BUH BYE. - philco28
I agree on that his lack of performance was his down-fall, only question is...why now? Why not back in the summer? Why not after the season? Likely because there was a witch-hunt by board members to cut Burke out, and likely something happened recently that tipped this. It just doesn't make sense to fire Burke and then hire Nonis (Burkes direct disciple) full time to take over the team, especially right before the season starts. |

Simmons call out Brian Chihauhau for the classless di ck head he is...and it drives the Bark crazy. - philco28
Simmons thrives on being hated, because he doesn't really have anything relevant to say. |

Because there will be trades and other signings as early as this afternoon. Perfect timing for Nonis to step up the plate and put his stamp on this team, even if the changes are subtle. |

The only thing that makes sense is...Burke's act is TIRED. And MLSE just said ENOUGH. Hiring Nonis ? Guess they needed to maintain some type of continuity.

Interesting convo on PTS yesterday on in-fighting between Bell and Rogers inside MLSE. Shannon expects Bell to buy out Rogers. |

Not the point....they should have hired an intern GM and began the hunt for a full-time GM and President (either separately or together). It's obviously a personal matter, since Nonis is not going to change that much from the game-plan that was already in place, since Burke brought in nearly every single staff member himself. |

Please don't talk as if you know anything about MLSE - they are the most dysfunctional, moronic pro-sports ownership group on the planet.
Have no problems with Burke being canned, but it was pretty dumb the way MLSE handled it, and doing so just before the season starts. This is just one in a long, long, LONG line of stupid decisions by MLSE |

so what's everyone's take on that insiderr rumor for Luongo.
Bozak/Kadr/Gunnarsson and either a first or a second.
As much as I want to call bogus on it, this is more or less what it will take, which really pisses me off. The fact that not a sinle dead weight contract, like Komi, goes the other way.
And where would this leave the defence? We'd lose one of our most underrated Dmen, after just trading Schenn. I hope Lu eats his wheaties everyday because he'll be busy back there.
And on top of not dumping any salary, we could also lose a 1st rounder. - AngryWhiteMale
Why are you wasting everyone's time with this crap?

MLSE handled it brilliantly. They shook up the hockey world and lit a fire under the Maple Laffs team....so fug offffffffffffffffffffffff

Nonis was already under contract and given the timing of the firing it was simple and easy to just let Nonis have the job for this season..
Once the Leafs miss the playoffs again this year they will look for a legit replacement for Pres and GM of the team in the summer...... |

They've already named him full-time GM, if they get rid of him at years end, then this is just a bigger circus than we thought it was. This whole Rogers-Bell partnership is not off to a good start at all, this move reeks of tampering from the board, and if that keeps up the next 10 years will be the same if not worse than the previous 10. |

Personally, I hope he drops some truth bombs and challenges Nonis to a barn-fight. - Mr_Clean

So because it was "simple and easy" it's the right decision? I don't think so, i'm not sticking up for Burke at all, but the timing of this, a long with the circumstances surrounding it, stinks. |
