Foster player on 6 different teams since 2009. Three (four if he signs somewhere) since last year.

That says enough to me.

I'm not excited about it either. But if they do sign him, I will keep an open mind and judge him on his play. But I'd rather they go with what they got, and save the Cap space, rather then sign Foster.

No question in my mind. And you really don't want Lilja in the lineup every game. He's much better suited as a part time player and 7th defenseman. But he is capable of filling in until either Meszaros or Gustafsson get ready to play.

Mez is key. I think his health is the most important on the blueline.

I don't think there is any question about that. Just be ready for the inevitable posts that he stinks and should be traded if he struggles early.

I'm waiting for teams to swap 2nd rounders for 2nd rounders, just to say they made a trade

Second rounders? Homer's in.

This is part of what is wrong with Hockey. Anton Babchuk has a NTC. That's pretty ridiculous.
- MJL

Literally half of the players on that team have movement clauses of some sort... pretty absurd.

Back to "available" dmen, Paul Ranger is by far the most ideal option out there -- if he's willing to leave the Marlies, that is.

I'm expecting some rough patches from him until he gets back into shape.

First and foremost, there's no substitute for seeing some games the player plays -- webcast usually has to suffice, as seeing them live isn't often an option -- and talking to scouts.

But even without watching the players first-hand, there are things anyone can look at for some general hints and trends on how he's progressing.

For defenseman, I look at their ice time (if available) and which pairing on the depth chart they play on. Plus-minus is more a team-play stat than an individual one, but it can sometimes tell you things if there's a big disparity between that player and the norms for the other regulars on that team.

For goalies, I look at playing time and whether there is a marked difference between that goaltender, the league norms for sv% and GAA, and between the two goalies on a given team.

In all cases -- goalies, D-men and forwards -- I look at the level of competition they're currently playing against and whether they are national team candidates (it can bode well if they are U20 team candidates by age 18).

For instance, I'm more impressed that an 18 y/o Swedish player is playing regularly on the 4th line or bottom D-pairing of an Elitserien (or minor league Allsvenskan) team, even if the minutes and stats aren't eye-catching, than I would be with a 19 year old who is tearing up the J20 SuperElit league but has yet to debut at the senior level.

They'd love to get rid of his contract... and he's got a NTC, so their options are limited. Getting at least 50% cap relief on him seems like a pretty good deal in and of itself -- a minor draft pick should be enough bait, I would think.

Honestly, I hate Babchuk as a player, but Babchuk > Foster for sure.

Ive got no problem bringing foster on board. There are going to be many, many injuries early on. They need NHL capable bodies right now

Going to camp with the Rangers. Was playing for the Whale in the AHL during the lockout. Believe he's actually on an AHL-only deal but could be released from it and then signed to a two-way if he sufficiently impresses Tortorella.

It's been stated that Ranger doesn't want to leave the Toronto area. If there is one area where NHL GM's need to clamp down, it's on the movement clauses. Holmgren is just as bad. He gave Simmonds a modified NTC. There is no way a player of that caliber should have any movement clauses whatsoever. No knock on Simmonds.

Barring injury, I could see Brayden Schenn leading all Flyers forwards in hits. And Luke Schenn leading all Flyers defenseman in hits. Call them the "Bruise Brothers".

Lou Lamoriello thought enough of Foster to trade for him last year. The games I saw Foster play in NJ he played pretty well. I may be in the minority, but I think he can help the Flyers.

one of the first things i thought after they picked up luke, they should be 1 2 in hits. i know it's a cheesy reason to be excited (there are many other better reasons) but i do think it will be awesome to have both of them on the team... hopefully they both are here for a long time

Just broke Gretzky's record for goals in 50 games. 92 goals in 50 games.

I was then sent down to the AHL to make room for Alexi Ponikarvsky.

Oh how much i despise EA sports.
