Detroit will be fine. They always are.
But they won't be winning any cups until the young guys on the blue line have the time to grow up. |

Oh, well why didn't you just say that! I'm 45 years old, I remember when the Wings sucked ass for a long long time. They drafted well when Mr. Ilitch bought the club and that's where it all started. Something the Leafs ownership might want to look back on. |

Why would Phoenix trade Yandle? They needed to get to the cap floor and he is their most talented Dman. Do you really think Bettman would allow Phoenix to trade him, the NHL runs the team they aren't letting talent like him leave for Detroit prospects. I'm curious what your trade package would have been for Yandle. |

From what I hear, Philly's hot after Luongo....and you're gonna love him just as much as we love Brayden Schenn! |

a prospect or 2 (tatar, ferraro, etc) and a pick. tatar could play right away.
some people have discussed dangling franzen, but I dont like that. |

They will need to run lean, see Nashville but worse. You dont get to keep your star players. You get to trade them for cheap up and coming talent so that you atleast stay competitive. |

Lol you think at would get it done? I'm thinking it would be more like Helm/or Abdlekader, a weaker prospect a pick and Detroit would make Phoenix take Brian Lashoff as part of the deal. |

But with 25 million in cap space you can afford to keep Yandle and Doan as your attractions and perpetually rebuild around them. Plus they are way better off than Nashville financially because they are being floated by 7 or 8 teams, Until Bettman gives up on hockey in the desert they are the most financially sound team in the NHL. |

NJ lost Stevens, Daneyko, Nieds, and Gomez in short order. Everyone predicted our downfall. Some organizations rise above. Detroit is one of those organization's. Dont count them out just yet. - WayneZ
well they did suck after they lost those guys. |

Last year Holland left the team high and dry, they had cap room galore and failed to acquire the top six forward they desperately needed. He sat on his wallet and left the team to die on the vine
That said, he made a bunch of good low budget moves this off season, It would have been beyond wonderful to have acquired Parise or Suter, but not at those dollars. The moves basically are:
Samuelsson for Hudler- Advantage Wings
Brendan smith, colaiocovo and a full season of Quincey for Lidstrom and Stuart- Disadvantage Wings
Tootoo for holmstrom advantage wings
Wildcard: Brunner
Gustafsson for Conklin- advantage Wings
Now with teams looking to dump salary the Wings should be in a position to pull the trigger when and if they need to. If Holland leaves the team out there again then it is time to scream and holler. But for all you haters who say the Wings are done just keep saying it, I think you will be disappointed come May and hopefully june

Pretty much agree on everything on here. The only retrospective move he shoulda/woulda made was that promising D man out of Florida (Garrison?) who signed early with the Canucks when we were shooting for Suter. Would have been a nice insurance policy.
Kenny is ALWAYS looking in 2-3 year blocks and never a single season. The goal this year is really to make the playoffs. Anything past that is cream on the top. As mentioned above, people will need to dump/trim salary and will be in much better position in the next couple of off seasons. Shannahan/Federov/Stevie Y end of an era transition took 2 years until the cup of 08. It is why you play the games.

All those moves are a disadvantage, or at best a wash. Samuelsson is 36 years old, Tootoo is a piece of garbage, and Gustafsson is a below average back up. |

Valid points, but look at the original post because everything is relative. A slight upgrade is still an upgrade... |

I thin the forwards should be this
Franzen-Datsyuk-Nyquist
Z-Filpulla-Brunner
Bertuzzi-Helm-Cleary
Samuelsson-Abdelkader-Tootoo
then theres eaves,miller, murask, emmerton.
I think Holland could somehow work a trade for a defenseman with all these extra forwards.
