I would argue they are 2 good drafts away from re-stocking .
In the meantime, Karri Ramo is a 'prospect' acquired on the cheap, killing it in the KHL and appears to be Kipper's successor in a year or two. So, can trade Irving for another pick or prospect needed.
Also, going the unconventional route (Cervenka) and signing a 25-goal scorer (Hudler) allows the kids to come up one at a time (Baert, Backlund, Horak, Brodie) while playing in a competitive environment for several years. Unlike the Oilers.
Flames are re-tooling, but people don't seem to understand this much. The future is much better than ppl think.

Well, I have said before and will say it again, the Oil ripped off their fanbase for over half a decade. For maybe a window of 2-3 yrs. If they dodge injuries, DD plays like a franchise goalie (questionable), ect.

I am quite pleased with Calgary's roster, and they will prove to surprise some. They also tried to make the playoffs each yr, even if they fell short the last 3, and were more interesting to follow due to this. However, enjoy your all star front 6. Time will tell how the rest works out, and if the D and G can hold up. Hall would be the biggest question (injury-wise), but I think he will work out well.

I just don't see all the chest puffing to be anything but hypocritical. Good fans don't cheer for their team to tank, and then, think they are world-beaters.

Bull poop! I'm from Calgary and take many customers to games there. I also have tickets in Edmonton. The game in Edmonton, even over the past 3 yrs have been far more fun and entertaining to watch.

aren't the terms of the new CBA that all 14 teams that don't make the playoffs have a shot at 1st overall in the draft lottery??? So to answer your question, yes they could pick 12th overall, or miss the playoffs and end up 17th in the league and still end up picking number 1. It's not all good. There needs to be improvement this season. I'm not saying they have to be in the playoffs ( though it would be nice) but they should be in the fight at least. If they finish in the 13-15 hole in the conference then it's time to cut tambellini. Just like coaching there are GM's that need to be replaced to get a team over the hump. I've been more impressed with tambellini than not, during his time. When you look at the moves he made at that time I think most people can agree it seemed like a good move. It's not tambellini's fault that Belanger sucked, he was a fine player the years previous. Barker was a low risk high reward situation. I thought tambo got the most out of the staios deal. The Whitney trade was a good one as well, injury's might jade people to that same conclusion. This season will be a tell tale sign if our GM is the man like a dale tallon or just riding shot gun like a Brian Burke. ( considering kevan Lowe allowed Brian to win the cup when kevan could of traded pronged to Florida for Loungo)
