Malkin had 8 points in 6 games. How is that being shut down?
- madmike71

Let me count the ways...
First, the experts agree. The media was all over the story the Malkin was shutdown by Coots.

Second, "points"... Malkin average pts/game was high for the season than it was for the Flyers series (1.45 vs 1.33)

Third, Let's look at goals. For 56 total goals in a series of 6 games... 3 goals from a "super" star is not a lot.

Forth, quality of the goals. One of the 3 was a power play in a 5-1 loss, and the other 2 goals were in a run-away game where the pens scored 10 goals.

Fifth, look at Malkins +/-. He was a +4 in the 10 goal game, other than that he was quiet; +1, 0, -1, -1, -4.

He will get close or around 4M IMO

This is a really important negotiation for several reasons. It is after the CBA conditions have been set and it will impact on other players.

Subban is a year older than Del Zotto and produced nearly at the same level as the NY Dman. So, whatever Subban gets from Montreal, Del Zotto will be looking for the same or a bit more. The reverse also applies if Del Zotto comes to agreement first. Maybe it turns out to be a little harder to get finished than some expected.

Habs don't want to go long term yet. Even if Del Zotto gets a long term deal, I doubt the Habs will reward PK with that type of deal.

Team policy has been a bridge contract after their entry level deal. Price and Pacs got those before they got their long term deal and PK will get the same thing. It's usually 2 years, PK might get 3yrs if he is lucky.

Is this team policy one of the reasons the Habs suck?

But, contracts are based on comparables. If Del Zotto gets a 4 year deal at $5m a year, Subban will get the same. If not in Montreal somewhere else.

It seems like a good trade for both teams. Habs get bigger, with a winger in Couturier, who is on the rise and the Flyers get Subban, a get in your face defenceman that can score. Flyers were ready to give a small fortune to Shea Weber, so Subban would be a cheaper option.
- PrinceLH

oh yeah? and who eats up Subban's 25 min/game in MTL?

lol that trade idea is a joke, that people even think Couturier straight up is worth Subban is hilarious, hilarity ensues
