No timetable according to his agent...

Apparently he is skating on his own now.

I'd give him a month. No more Rambo sh!t this time. Come back when you really are 100% Ryan.

I've heard he's had trouble lifting his arm above his shoulder (still), rehabbed it to hard.

No but Burke and Nonis will have a foundation in place that any idiot GM could just step in the Leafs should be a top 4 team in the league right?
- fiveandagame

I guess we shall see once Nonis leaves won't we?
I don't know how different this Leafs team will be in 3years.
If the Leafs are looking for an idiot GM after Nonis leaves, Gillis could be their guy

Just curious, what is about Gillis that you think makes him an idiot, or are you just being a douche to stir the pot?

I'm sure that in some way his agent will make this the Canucks fault...

Exactly. It won't matter who the GM is. Burke and Nonis's stamp on the team will be deep that they will be one of the Stanley Cup favorites for sure

This. For once I want Kesler healthy for the playoffs

I personally think he'd do really well there! Good hands for a big man, has speed and can play a cycle game with the twins. Booth Kesler Burrows would be a good second line.
- LeftCoaster

I think Burrows would work well with them.

A monkey could do what Gillis has...and you guys would be giving the monkey credit. The team was built by Burke and Nonis to win, and they are...not even Gillis could screw that up
- BoBBeR56

Yup. A monkey could have signed all the team's top players to amazing contracts, and found a great cast of supporting players for peanuts.

Gillis's tenure hasn't been without its mistakes (see Ballard trade), but he's done many things to improve this team from where it was when he got here. Not bad for a guy who had never managed a team before.

Can't decide whether I want to say he needs to be able to do that to dive properly, or go with he won't need that this year all that much, because he won't be scoring too often.

Too close to call.

Any ornithologists in the building? What's tougher, a Falcon or a Seahawk?

Wasn't it Gillis who signed Luongo to that so called "amazing contract" you are talking about?

Probably ensuring no Bettman sneakies lying in the fine print.
- AlexF

Their agents have to ensure them that there are gaps in this CBA that they can benifit from. The NHL hasn't helped the bottom 10 teams enough. I think we are going to see a lot of francise movement in the next 3-4 years. I guess 3-4 teams. Islanders already moved for more $$.

I had no problem with the Luongo contract before the new "Luongo Rule" was introduced in the new CBA. How was Gillis supposed to foresee this?

If it weren't for the emergence of Schneider, I would have no problem with Luongo at a $5.3 million cap hit until he retires.

That amazing contract will be property of the Leafs by monday.

Edit: So if Luongo and his contract get traded to Toronto, who is the idiot GM, Gillis or Nonis?

I was just responding to the other guys post about hiring an idiot GM to clean up the Leafs.
I just don't think Gillis has made the moves he should be to making this team a winner...most of you Canuck fans are fairly intelligent (Scooby, Bieksa#3, and a few others not so much) and you guys can see the wholes in the team...why can't he fixi t?

Yes...a monkey could have.
Gillis inherited a cup contending team and he couldn't even fill it in right to win it all...

- boonerbuck

You confuse me for someone else. Show me otherwise...

I believe Schneider is an unproven starter and Luongo's contract is (frank)ed.

Nice try, lets talk in 2 years and see how well you seriously contend for the cup...

Who would you have brought in if you were Gillis?
I think we needed a Chris Neil, but you have to give to get.
