Gillis got them to the finals, much better than anything BB or donuts did here. - A_SteamingLombardi
Good thing Gillis drafted the Sedins, Kesler, Edler, Schneider, and Bieksa; signed Burrows, and traded for Luongo. Without those, the Canucks with the remaining players that Burke and Nonis brought in would have been a disaster. |

If you honestly believe that you're a fool. He's added depth that brought the club over the edge, some of it was the natural maturation of Kesler Burrows Edler and the Sedins, but bringing in Malhotra Higgins Lapierre Hamhuis Booth has helped with the lack of depth issue. - LeftCoaster
Question Canuck fans...what is your teams biggest weakness right now? What do you think needs to be done to win the Cup? |

Its because it wasn't done properly...constant mistake of trading youth for aging players, trading draft picks, signing old guys to long term deals with NTC...
Plus like I said, look at how ridiculous the Leafs roster was in 2008 when Burke took over...you are dumber than a bag of hammers if you think the 2008 roster (and prospects) is better than the roster right now. - BoBBeR56
2008 - 12th in the East - 81 Pts
2012 - 13th in the East - 80 pts.
As you will here Nonis say time and time again - "stay the course" |
|
|
|
Yah, but that was because of GM's before him...Fletcher, JFJ, Quinn, etc.
Did Burke make a questionable deal with the Kessel deal? Absolutely, and who knows where this team would be if he didn't...but Leafs did get a 25yr old who has 4x30goal seasons under his belt and was 6th in NHL scoring last year... - BoBBeR56
You just said "it wasn't done properly" |

If you were an american would you stay? They will go south and pay less taxes. - A_SteamingLombardi
How did that work out for him when he played for an American team? As soon as he wanted a raise they shipped him out.
If Leafs are willing to pay, he will stay... |

A second line that can score, thus taking the pressure off of Henrik Daniel and Burrows. This, IMO, has been Gillis's biggest downfall. Not addressing the RW position on the second line. |

Wow...so 1pt and one spot better...no youth, no prospects on that 2008 team. I think Juri Tlusty was the best prospect. |

You'd have a better chance winning the Cup with him rather than Gillis there...and that's the truth. |

And its an obvious glaring whole along with team toughness.
Can it be really that hard to go out and get a top6 winger? Gillis is failing. |

Yeah, 4 years later, the team has not improved in the standings at all. The team still doesn't have reliable goaltending and nobody down the middle. With all the "work" Burke has done, when do the Leafs see results? This year, next year, the year after? Stay the course. |

If Gillis is failing by the Canucks record the last couple of years then I don't think they have a word to describe what the Leafs have been doing. |

Probably at least 3years depending on Reimer/Scrivens and what Nonis does as far as moves next offseason, and where Leafs finish in the standings this year.
How can you turn a mediocre AHL roster into an NHL playoff team in 4 years? |

"On the whole, Preparation H feels good on the hole".
If it was so easy to find top 6 forwards why has they dynamic duo of Burke and Nonis been able to find a centre to play with Kessel? |

Not at all...Gillis doesn't have the brains or balls to make the bold move like Burke does. One big move acquiring a top notch winger to upgrade your 2nd line and make your team tougher would put the Canucks over the top. |

The 2007/2008 roster finished 7th last, how is that worse than the Leafs have finished the past four years? 7th last, 2nd last, 9th last and 5th last. Obviously the pool of prospects is 100% better, but, a lot of B and C grade prospects there. He should of drafted Kadri, Seguin, Hamilton and Rielly over the past four years in the first round. You'd be better off!!!

A monkey could do what Gillis has...and you guys would be giving the monkey credit. The team was built by Burke and Nonis to win, and they are...not even Gillis could screw that up |

Detroit won a Cup with a small soft Euro line-up, more than one way to skin a cat. Not a valid argument but I agree Gillis has failed so far regarding putting together a second line. |
