I think they have more than “enough” at the wings, depending on what you mean by enough. They certainly have plenty of capable wingers. Between Kessel, Lupul, Macarthur, Frattin, Kulemin, JVR, potentially Kadri, who I think is more suited to wing, and a few other possibilities, I find it hard to believe you can’t fill out 3 lines of wingers. Hell, if Connolloly sticks around and is healthy, he played some depth winger spots last year.

I also think that the Leafs have quite a bit of depth of D and a lot very promising talent on D. I know this sounds a lot easier then it is, but trade some wingers and D men for a center and a goalie.

Here's the problem: nobody gives away centres.

I'm with the Flyers on this one: only draft centres. It's not hard to move a centre to the wing: you just tell the guy not to skate back as hard, and to only cover one side of the rink.

Which is why in the long run the Kessel trade will haunt this current team for the next 10 years. Not only would you have Seguin but you would have another blue chip d prospect in Hamilton. Then you could afford to trade good wingers and D men for a goalie and another center and not worry about sacrrificing to much depth. I know this trade had been talked about by everybody, but for fans that now want to rebuild properly the Kessel trade is making that more difficult.

It's a bit of a stretch to suggest that we would have Hamilton - no telling how the draft would have gone if the scenarios were different. But point taken.

It's one of the two fundamental problems I had with the trade: I don't think wingers are as valuable as centres. So giving away the farm for a winger just didn't make sense to me.

That, and the timing. Kessel was a guy you trade for to put you over the top. You don't trade for him to start a rebuild.

Yeah, they have plenty of depth on both. Not necessarily all guys that will be setting the world on fire, but certainly piles of guys that can play the role.

On wing, I'd say they have piles of it that is NHL already, or NHL ready. The guys I mention. Not a tonne of guys in the works, and no A list prospects on the wing. But several B list guys, like Ross, Leivo, and Biggs. Some guys that I'd bet some Leaf fans would call B list, but I'd say C list, like Sondre Olden and D'Amigo. Spencer Abbot is kind of an interesting one too.

On D, sort of a similar story, lots of guys that are capable top 4 Dmen. Phaneuf, Gunnarson, Gardiner, Liles, Franson. Then, some guys that can probably play third pairing this year.... Holzer looks like can handle a depth role, maybe Gysbers or Kostka. I'm totally curious to see what happens with Paul Ranger. That guy was shaping up to be a seriously good dman for Tampa a few years ago. Again, no elite guys, no Drew Doughtys or Shea Webers, but piles of capable depth. The D lineup is much better in terms of prospects. One A+ list guy in Rielly. Another A list guy in Finn. Some A-/B+ list guys in Blacker and Percy. Even this kid out of Sweden they just drafted is seriously turning heads. Piles of them. Just nothing to set the world on fire right now.

But then, at centre. not much at the NHL level. I dont think Kadri is a centre in the NHL. Then what is there? Greg McKegg? Project at best. Colborne? The entire organization is void of good centres at any level.

Goalies? Piles of B list guys, like Reimer, Scrivens, Rynnas, Garret Sparks has apparently made strides. These guys have all shown promise, but none are A list. None that you can look at and say “yeah, but in a few years ______ will be back there, and they’ll be fine”.

It's night and day, comparing D and wing to centres and goalies with the Leafs.

Don't think it was a knock, just a joke for an american crowd who have no clue who he is. Hard to knock someone if you don't know who he is. I found it funny.

How so?

Bozak can play 2C until Kessler gets back, he is an upgrade of Higgins if they move him to C. Kulemin is the exact player that Vancouver needs and can easily be a 30 goal scorer again. Franson would be in the top 6 easily.

they want/need to get rid of Luongo and Kassian well is kinda regressing.

If it costs as much as Van fans say (Kadri, Reilly, 1st...), we could likely get a guy like Halak anyways, who is better, younger and on a cheaper contract....

Who is saying that? Maybe one guy did...but not guys that actually have a clue...
That said...Leafs get a goalie, a defenceman, and Getzlaf and Perry...that may speed things up quick...

Between Burke and Nonis, Vancouver acquired all the important pieces on that team.

Lets hope the next GM of the Leafs is better than Gillis(shouldn't be too hard).

Why is it not arguable?
Last year:
Halak 1.97GAA .926Save%
Luongo 2.41GAA .919Save%

So then the excuse will be, that was one year...
Ok career:
Halak 2.43GAA .918Save%
Luongo 2.52GAA .919Save%

So, its not as simple as no...its actually arguable, and when you bring into account Luongo's age compared to Halak's...you can see why Leaf fans would rather him...

Right?

Nonis's nickname in Vancouver was No Nunts. He looked like a deer in headlights for most of his tenure. I'm sure you will point out the Luongo trade which had way more to do with Keenan's inabilty to sign Luongo to an extention and Keenan's hard-on for Bertuzzi. Nonis's motto is "stay the course." Don't expext any blockbuster moves. (Unless MLSE is really pulling the trigger)

Oh, all things considered, if the price for each were equal, it’s an easy decision. Halak carries WAY more value than Luongo, without a seconds hesitation.

It's amazing how much credit leaf fans give Nonis for answering a phone, Keenan was just lucky Nonis wasn't out for his second lunch of the day.
