Isn't that essentially the same thing? Either pay him one large sum or slowly over the years.

If they are in fact interested in Lou perhaps Pronger is traded back as a form of saving money from the Bry buy out. Can someone on LTIR be traded?

Would love B.Schenn back if (a signed)Edler is in the discussion

- Whiskey-Tango

LTIR the money is paid out by the insurance company and the team can replace his salary of equal or lesser value while the player is out.

Rememeber his no-movement clause. I think that outs Islanders as well as Chicago and Edmonton --- who are most likely out due to (a) being in the West (b) Edmonton is the 'anti-florida' and (c) oxygen would run out in Vancouver if he had sucess in the west, espcecially Chicago.

Why not Ottawa? Why not Nashville?

I think the Islanders are the sleeper in this. Dipetro will be bought out and they might want to make a big move to pump up the new arena

Yup and they have plenty of cap room and lots of young talent with no goalies on the horizon.

Then you are out of the playoffs. Gillis has no gun to his head.

Gillis would be happy with two #1 goalies in a short season. He will not be undersold as Toronto will not be overpaying.

- Beatle_john

wait. is there a Leafs GM under the gun to make the playoffs?

I'm not so sure, yes Bryz sh!t the bed, no doubt about it but the Flyers defense was suspect as well. They still have work to do, contacting Vancouver about the availability of players is more then likely true but im hesitant to believe its about Lou. I think that aspect of this rumor was fabricated by Vancouver in an attempt to raise Roberto's value among other teams.

More credible sources than you have said the discussion was about Lou.

cant see that. No one expects to make huge strides with a team in their first year as GM.

Both TO and NYI are the bastions of dysfunction. To had a right to be worried. What will the new ownership's role be in the decision to get Louongo?

True, but ur new GM is basically the same guy, except he's much quieter and loves Lou more.

You must relieved as a Leaf fan that there is no pressure on management to put a team into the playoffs. It's probably best to just keep things status quo.

Damien Cox and McCown said they believe he will be fired if he doesn't make the playoffs.

He needs a goalie and a 1 st line center ,He needs to work the phones and do some deals.

No Reilly or Gardiner, they are Toronto's future for Vancouver's past! Conolly (last year on contract and fills the 2nd line hole vancouver has), Reimer (2 years left on contract and could be used in an offseason trade if Lack manages to get there somehow), Colbourne (big centre prospect with hands who is struggling this year) and a 2nd.

I wouldn't be happy as a Leaf fan if we paid anymore then that!

I think Sunday you hear a deal done and Gardiner will be a Canuck

You have Non Hockey personel making the decisions (Bell Media)

You have called the Lu/Gardiner trade for a long time now. I would laugh my azz off if that trade goes down.
You'll be known as an insider.

If that happens the mods will make this site look the first 20 minutes of saving private Ryan
Edit: I betting it will be a race between sccoby and bloated to see who can be the first off the boat
