LTIR the money is paid out by the insurance company and the team can replace his salary of equal or lesser value while the player is out.

They still have work to do, contacting Vancouver about the availability of players is more then likely true but im hesitant to believe its about Lou. Conolly (last year on contract and fills the 2nd line hole vancouver has), Reimer (2 years left on contract and could be used in an offseason trade if Lack manages to get there somehow), Colbourne (big centre prospect with hands who is struggling this year) and a 2nd.
