I would just wait for Vancouver to buy him out at the end of the season. Taking him off your hands is a favor, i cant see that much going back if he is traded.
- Rally_Shots

Theres some risk involved with waiting till seasons end. tsn has an article explaining it on the Rangers options with Redden.

Looking past the stupidity of mentioning Rielly at all... how is he listed as an equal part to Finn, Percy, or Biggs?

And how much of Luongo's contract would Vancouver be absorbing?

They're allowed to take up to 50%, right? Because maybe replacing Rielly with Percy and the 2nd with a 3rd, and with 50% of Lu's contract staying in Vancouver, and having a prospect like Kassian or Gaunce coming back would make it a worthwhile deal.

You don't know Gillis. He thinks Lu is the 2 nd best goalie on the planet

Sooo Connolly, Percy, and a 3rd for Luongo (at half price and cap hit) and Kassian or Gaunce?

Even I have to chime in on this blog - does the writer of this blog know anything about any other NHL teams than just the Canucks?

Simply laughable after Burke said that he and his team would have taken Reilly #1 in the past draft - semantics for sure but they are not going to throw him in for Lou -

Let me guess the writer of the blog feels that Galchenyuk for Lapierre is a fair deal as well?

That's not important. What's important is that A) he's far from it, and B)nobody else believes that he is.

Gillis can enjoy that cap-hit for a back-up, though.

I'm thinking Gillis gets Rielly or Gardiner in the deal.

I can't see the Leafs moving Gardiner if the plan is to make the playoffs this year. they need him.

Rielly is a couple years out of making an impact. I could see him being moved and Gillis is pretty stuck on getting a 1st rd pick in the deal.

Pick your poison, Rielly or Gardiner

Then I don't want Lou, would rather finish out of the playoffs again

I hope neither one of them, as I have said many times, it is out of our control, what happens, happens.

Is he still a good goalie? Hell yes but in a way it will be fun to see who is the closet in the deal player wise here if he is dealt to the Leafs, bragging rights on the line.

*might* be worth it.

Maybe take out the 3rd, and add a first from Vancouver.

and change the "or" to an "and"

And take Komisarek back.

What I'm saying is, there's no reason for the Leafs to give up value to be saddled with 8 years of dead cap.

Can you imagine if we had Corrado and Rielly. Orr and Brad Park all over again.

It's all about hits though ... I get it.

I will say you're an absolute, unadulterated, unequivocal moron if you think you land either Rielly or Gardiner in this deal.

Somehow I think he will have a decent return before years end.

I forgot about Corrado. Add him into the deal too.

Gonna need somebody to fill in on our AHL d-corps, as they graduate to the NHL.

Depends how much salary he's willing to absorb, both in terms of keeping some of Lu's contract, and taking shorter term cap-dumps.

Maybe if a team feels they're ready for a cup run, and doesn't mind being stuck with 8 years of paying a back up millions of dollars, they'd give up something of value.

The way Nonis wins and gets out of this situation is by trading for a young, established netminder with a reasonable contarct that no one predicted being traded. If the cost is that high for Luongo anyway, who says it has to be Luongo?

Interesting article on Redden. Kind of sad if they have to sit him all year to make sure he doesnt get injured.

Best bet: See how our goalies play behind an actually defensive system.

Again, you put Brodeur or Lundqvist behind Wilson's Leafs, and they'd struggle.

See if Reimer is healthy. See what Scrivens/Rynnas can do behind a defensive system.

I understand this. Personally, I dont think the Canucks are going to trade Luongo. He's still a number one in this league. As much as we'd like Schneider to take over now, contractually it doesn't make sense. I'd be shopping Schneider right now. He could bring back something useful for our team.

Question though... how do salary buyouts work in the new CBA? If they are the same as previously, would the team be able to pre-empt the Luongo rule in the CBA by buying him out before he retires? The cap penalty would last for more seaons, but it would be a much smaller percentage I think.

It is fun to screw around with it, lightning up the mood, and yes it is Rielly.
