Bob McCowan just said the dicussion between MLSE and Burke went like this

MLSE:Brian you need to make the playoffs this year or you are fired. Do you think you can make the playoffs with Luongo?

Burke :Yes I think we can but the asking price is too high they want Gardiner and Kadri.

MLSE : Will he help you make the playoffs.

Burke:Yes ,but it is a bad hockey move.

MSLE :Brian make the trade for Luongo.

Burke: No I can't do that.

MSLE:Brian you are fired.

McCowan just said this 5 min ago.

sooo... when should we expect the NHL to fine the Canucks for discussing deals during a lockout?

Careful what you say.

He was just saying MLSE are asses for firing Burke .They should have stayed the course and build with the draft. Same as all you HB Leaf fans have been saying.

Finally someone in MLSE says "what we are not making the playoffs again???? "

This Lou to Philly stuff is pure B.S...

I don't doubt conversations have been made, but if these two teams are talking it has nothing to do with Lou and everything to do with Edler.

It has now become decisively clear that these rumors originated from the West coast, most likely from the hands of the Canucks organization in an attempt to raise Lou's value.

Notice how Holmgren* denied the Lou reports and yet never denied actually talking to the Nucks, then this Lou B.S started surfacing.

Where there's smoke there's fire, but again, it has zero to do with Lou.

At this point, I'd like to point out that Burke's most glaring move of his tenure with the Leafs was trading for Kessel, instead of building through the draft.

Burke was fired because he was called on the carpet to explain his lack of progress, and he had absolutely no answers.

He promised to build down the middle, yet 4 years later, his best prospect is Joe Colborne.

He promised to build from the net out, yet 4 years later, we have a bunch of unproven kids, none of whom can be considered blue chippers.

And he had no answer as to how he was going to fix these problems.

Nonis, is that you?

If not, this is just yet another example of pure speculation.
We will know in the coming weeks what happened, and until then the only people in the know are MLSE and the supporting cast.

I think everyone is looking at this the wrong way...the price for Luongo didn't go way up, it actually plummeted because of the new CBA. If Luongo retires before his contract is up, the team who owns his rights is still on the hook for the cap hit. Theres no way he's going to be playing into his 40's so really, he has very little value when you consider how damaging it will be to have a 5mil cap hit for a player who isn't even with the team.

i still think the deal for luongo will be something like bozak, ashton, 2nd rounder, holzer/blacker(i think the nucks needed a stay home defensemen no?)

Any good rumors floating around twitter?

And I was wondering if you guys think a kessel trade after this season is a possibility considering his deal's up and his prospects of resigning are slim to nil.

If we really wanted a good return I'd think that perhaps a team like Columbus would be interested as they'll most likely be in the market for a scoring forward to attract fans. Perhaps phil and colborne could get us Johansen and Jenner.

That's a pretty poor return. I have doubts that Jenner's game will translate well to the NHL...

I would rather keep Ashton as he still has time to round into form before we assess his chances of developing fully.

And I absolutely hope Kadri doesn't get involved in any deal.

Some of us around here think the same thing. Exchange Holzer/Blacker with Franson and I think that's the deal.

The Canucks need a center even with Kesler in the line up. Bozak can cover the 2nd line until Kesler returns and then move to the 3rd. Gillis stated that he wants the team to get "younger and bigger". Ashton and Franson are "younger and bigger".

This trade scenario has been kicked around for months now because at the end of the day it makes sense and is fair.

Really?? I see him as Dave Bolland / Brad Marchand type guy. 2nd/3rd line guy that drives people nuts and can score the odd goal. I think CBJ will love him.

There was nothing about jenners game(I've watched a lot of Oshawa games this year) that indicates he won't translate that into the NHL.

Gillis, is that you?

I have no doubt Edler could be part of the equation, but it's well known Phi is unhappy with their goaltending. A few media members have also confirmed the discussions between the two teams about Luongo.

As far as Holmgren's denial goes, what do you expect him to say? This is the same guy that told Jeff Carter to his face that he was part of Phi's future plans shortly before dealing him to CLB.

The talks about Lou between Van and Phi may have been minor, but there are several indications they happened, and you're in no place to deny them.

I wouldn't be surprised if Phi was interested in a package including both Lou and Edler.

This is what I was thinking too. If that is the case, the Canucks better get a good return or else it could be a rough year.
