Its called postional depth. The Canucks feel that they have 2 #1 goalies and there is a redundency in that. They want to trade one to help fill holes in other areas. Is this really a difficult concept to figure out? - fiveandagame
It is when you suggest his contract isnt the issue.
Its hard to figure out why you're trading the proven amazing goalie instead of the guy with 60 games, when the contract is no big deal. |

And yet (outside of Rielly), there probably isn't a Leaf that the Canucks and their fans want more - As_I_See_It
This should be pretty simple for you...the canucks and their fans want players they can use, not your scrubs and C- prospects. |
|
|
|
... But let's disregard Lu's age and contract, and the fact that a stacked Van team in arguably the weakest division (until recently) had anything to do with any of those rewards.
Exactly. Gardiner WAS A ROOKIE D-man who managed to turn heads around the league with his poise, skating, pucks smarts, vision etc despite being on a lottery team. - As_I_See_It
Gardiner is a very decent not elite Dman . A rose in a pile of fertilizer will always be noticed. Being on HNIC every week did not hurt his popularity.
Leafs as do other teams tend to over value players worth.
Vancouvers Dfense last year was a chinese fire drill. I would have ranked their D around 20 th in the league last year. It was our goalies who made our D look good not vice versa. |

So you think they would keep Bryz and Luongo this year just to buy out Bryz next year? That's a TON of money committed to goalies over the next 10years, lol - BoBBeR56
That money doens't show up on that cap. It's not like Ed Sneider has a problem spending money. Bryz is a problem for the Flyers. Ed can make that go away by signing a cheque. It wouldn't be the first time someone with deep pockets did that. |

Seriously? At this point in time the odds favour the canucks by a wide margin, unless your a blind follower of a GMless team...oh wait they took another of our castoffs as a gm right? - rune_74

Dude we don't play the leafs 6 times a year, too bad... - rune_74
Which is why nobody understands Vancouver's little hate boners for the Leafs.
I get it, Van fans want the Canucks to be "Canada's team," but we all know that will never happen. |

We get another good prospect. Its a deep draft.
But you're a Canucks fan. Hire Fletcher. He can draft shmaft with the best of them. - systemtool
I heard Oiler fans saying last year about it being a deep top 10 draft and after the WJC they were looking to trade Yakupov |

There is a difference between Oiler fans and informed media. A small portion of Oilers fans would do that, but thats what happens when you have RNH, Hall, Eberle etc.

Though toronto had a ton of money...Van can seem to afford it. His cap hit is what 5.3 m? That too rich for you guys? - rune_74
Wow you are slow...
Why would a young, rebuilding team spend $5.3mil of its cap for a 34yr old goalie? If this was for Schneider then it would be a different conversation. |

Schnieder is 26 years old and has had success at every level. The 60 games he has played in the NHL have been very good and the team feels comfertable going with him.
This whole saga will most likely have been played out in the next 5-7 days. At that point we can all find out who was right and wrong. |

Being tied for 5th in team GF probably didn't hurt Lu/CS' W stats either. |

What is funny we get accused of hating the leafs yet...in this thread, a canuck thread we have a bunch of delusional leafs fans telling us how stupid we are. How great the leafs are. |

Very true, Gardiner is a solid PMD, not elite but I think most fans would like to have him on their team, it's kind of the measuring stick on how he is perceived as a talent if other fans want him. |

It will take longer than that. If Schneider stumbles and falters, that can play a major role in all this and whether they moved the right goalie. Regardless, its going to be very interesting. |

Quick question, ever seen the leafs with a cup in color? You actually went there, not surprising since you know...it wasn't easier to win the cup with only 6 teams. |
