all are better than Luongo.

Goalies that do more, with less of a supporting cast.

Outside of the Kessel trade, name a bad trade that Burke made with the Leafs.
- WafflesAtACC

Name a trade that set a franchise back as far as the Kessel deal did.

Yeah that was JFJ but equally bad. I'd really like to have Seguin, Hamilton and Rask in the fold.......

Edit: Go Bruins?

I think it was a worse trade. At least we got a quality player back in Kessel....but Raycrap we got nothing and give away a 1a goalie (tough call holding on to Pogge and Rask and making that kind of decision but still the wrong call).

Burke didn't build a team slowly nor the right way.

He rushed it to try and make the playoffs and gave up future assets in doing so. Tallon built the team his way because he had Toews and Kane ready to be top line players, so he was able to surround him.

Kessel was not ready to be the top player on the Leafs, so nothing fit properly... the lack of goaltending was Burke's biggest problem. He did not have a Belfour, Cujo or Potvin to save him like GMs in Leafland before him.

Dave Tallon was fired for one reason and one reason only. Scotty Bowman and his son. The Blackhawks lured the hall of fame coach to be part of their administrative staff because of his son. Stan may be a good guy, I don't know but the Tallon firing stunk of clearing the way for Scotty's son rather than anything Stan did.

Stan was the executive who screwed up that year. Tallon took the blame in the press because Stan reported to him. Management then held Tallon responsible and promoted the guy who made the mistake to take his boss's position. Keep in mind this was after the draft, etc. Stan basically got promoted and had a first class seat to watching Tallon's team win the cup while getting the accolades for building the team.

It must be nice to have a famous father that people fall over themselves to keep happy.

I'm not a troll, I'm a Leafs fan. What exactly has having Kessel done for this team? He's a great player, I love watching him but I seriously question the timing of his acquisition and the complete mis-read as to where the Leafs were at the time.

you don't build teams around wingers. Columbus couldn't get anything going with Nash, Leafs same w/ Kessel. Look at the Leafs w/ Sundin at centre. His wingers were guys like Hoglund and Mike Johnson and they were making the playoffs. Strength at centre w/ solid goaltending.....that's what is required to compete.

He seemed to adjust very quickly after the initial bad decision. Also he seems horrible at choosing goalies

Good point.

Rask was being called the best goalie outside of the NHL at the time. I don't know why they didn't let Rask and Pogge battle it out for the job......Peddie wanted playoff money tho, so that trumps doing things the right way.

I agree with your points but to start off saying one of the worst trades ever is going to extreme. It was not the greatest trade but we got a extremely good player unfortunately we gave a good player but that's how trades work u give to get

I didn't say that - that was Blow Monkey.

We'll have to see what happens with Kessel before we determine "worst trade ever" status. If Nonis gets Bosh'ed, which I doubt he will then yeah, it'll be bad. But if he trades him for solid pieces or resigns him then yeah, avoids "worst trade ever" status.
