Do you know the Leafs would have came in 2nd last without Kessel in the lineup that season? No you don't.

They could have came in dead last... or could have won the cup.... you don't know.

Won the cup? really? was that even a possibility? Without Kessel they would have been worse off no doubt...

I suggested Columbus yesterday. Players seem to like him, maybe the Jackets would gain a little credibility (toward NHLers) by hiring him.

Yeah that trade worked out as best it possibly for you guys considering he was anRFA where they both parties didnt' want to deal with eachother anymore and you won the cup.

Same with the Kaberle trade... you guys got smoked on that one (I think it was in good faith after how the Kessel deal turned out - which was shocking) however you won the cup with Kaberle who was your lineup for 2 months (for two 1st rounders).. so it was worth it for you guys.

Agreed, I would redo the Kaberle trade over again given the outcome. We won the cup, now could we have won the cup without Kaberle, possibly, yes but who knows. Luckily for Boston the pick we ended up shipping out to Toronto was a late 1st rounder and Joe Colborne who would have had trouble cracking our lineup.

If Kessel got 6th in league scoring, and revitalized Lupol's career by playing with Kessel, isn't he the best player. When was the last time a leaf was in the top ten - and no Sundin wasn't there ever. I just don't understand, any other guy gets at least 2 first rounders if he's at that level, I'm not saying I wouldn't want Sequin cause I would, but this calibre of player from any other team would garner that type of return. If Sundin - who never cracked the top ten as a leaf - was traded for anything less than 2 first rounders people would freak in Toronto. Kessel will likely score at least 400 goals in his careers maybe more if he stays healthy and go down as one of the best American born shooters in history, but he isn't worth 2 first rounders? I'm a little baffled, plus, agian, look at how he lifted Lupol. Just saying.

I'm certain without had-his-day you win the cup. What was he playing 10 mins a game?

Which could have potentially worked out better for the leafs had they not made the trade and kept the pick!

Kessel and HAMILTON...much rather those 2 over Kessel every day of the week
- JR1417

In actuality it would have been even better. Because without Kessel the Leafs would have finished last both years.

They could have had Hall and RNH.

Yeah, I like the Bruins. It's my Dad's team and they drafted Thorton.
But these ppl who say the Kessel trade was for Seguin, Hamilton and Knight are just trying to flip script to make it sound better than it was at the time. Another situation where the media (bell and rogers) bash the Leafs.

Yeah I know, its hard to even think about that. But, I was just making the argument on Hamilton and Seguin...I would much rather those 2 plus Knight not even factoring in the potential of the picks being even better had they done worse...

How can you not make this argument? Boston got Hamilton, Seguin and Knight from the trade, right? Factor in if the leafs didn't make the trade they would most likely have been worse, thus the picks might have even been better...
